If you missed the first post in this series, I’ll remind you. I’m using this as basically my “favorites” and “least favorites”. Not every breakout pick is a guy I think can make the All Star team. And not every bust pick is a guy I think is going to have a bad season. I’m just telling you what I think about the prices and the #vibes around each guy in this format.

We’re onto the NL East today. Lots to talk about.

Nationals

Dylan Crews

Player Breakdown

Power and speed are there; I think he just needs a healthy season where he can make those needed adjustments. If he can get the angles figured out a little bit more, it will be a very solid fantasy season for Crews. And if he takes a big stride forward in quality of contact, he’ll turn into a very strong fantasy contributor in a hurry.

Cade Cavalli

Player Breakdown

Good fastball, high SwStr%, threw strikes, and got ground balls. He checked all of my boxes last year. The box score results weren’t there, but that just keeps it super cheap for this year.

Why I love Cade Cavalli this year. Last year's numbers: SwStr%: 13.8% (ranked #30) K%: 18.3% (ranked #142) That's a league-leading 112 spot rank difference between SwStr% and K%. He had the 8th-best JA ERA in the league.

Marlins

Jakob Marsee

Player Breakdown

Lots of contact with some (not a ton of) power. And that should be enough to make him a quite useful fantasy option while he’s stealing a ton of bags. My model is overheated on him:

But maybe I’m onto something! And the lowest SB projection is still 26 bags. You don’t have to do a ton more with 30 steals to be a worthwhile fantasy pick. I’ll admit, he’s not sneaking through the ADP cracks. His price isn’t one I’m jumping at every single time, but I’d still like to have my flag planted on this side of the buy/sell debate with Marsee.

Eury Perez

Player Breakdown

I think the ADP tells a tale here. People already liked Eury at the beginning of draft season, but the sharps have been chasing him up the board as they all tussle for shares.

Eury has a unique combination of nastiness, command, and depth of pitch mix. There are so many ways he can smash this year, and I want to be along for the ride.
