Orioles
Pete Alonso
It’s nothing in particular against Alonso the player, but the price just isn’t computing for me. We’ve had this clump of reliable power bats at first base for years now, and they’ve usually gone right around the same time in the draft. It’s an older group of dudes, and Alonso is on the younger half of it, but he’s shot up 20 picks in ADP while the other guys have all fallen at least 20.
The projections mostly make Bryce Harper the best target of the group, and you’re getting a way cheaper price on him.
People must be really excited about Alonso landing in Baltimore. And that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me either. By the numbers, it’s a positive park shift for him. But that’s being overly reliant on what happened in Camden last year. These park factors are an inexact science, so I’m really not willing to move dudes up multiple rounds just because they land in some marginally better park. I’ll pass on this price for Alonso.
Rays
Yandy Diaz
It’s all pretty simple with the Rays this year, at least in my mind. I love the pitchers, and I hate the hitters. There are exceptions, and the prices have adjusted to take into account the park move. But with Yandy, I’m just not getting it.
