The Run Environment
The sim’s top team totals are the Angels (6.69), Mariners (6.40), White Sox (6.37) and Dodgers (6.25), followed by the Cubs (5.82), Diamondbacks (5.59), Mets (5.54) and Rockies (5.46). LAA-ATH (11.17) and ARI-COL (11.05) are the top games. CIN-ATL (7.44) and TB-NYY (7.45) are the pitching games, and the Reds’ 2.81 is the lowest number on the board.
What we have to watch out for now is all the substitutions: pitchers getting pulled, hitters getting pulled. It’s the last week of the season. What we’re looking for is guys like yesterday: Jones to go out and throw a big game, Wheeler to go out and throw a big game. We got to really condense our pool because otherwise you’re going to end up getting wrecked. I.e., look at all the teams that used just relievers yesterday, and then you have things like the horrible Angels bullpen that blew a lead of 200 million runs last night.
So here is the thing: this week, we can project all we want, and all we really care about is projected playing time, correctly. Because, this last week of the season, if you get that right (especially with pitching), you’re always going to have massive leverage in whatever slate you’re playing, whether single entry, 3 max, or GPP. One of the things I do this week is I’ll be hawking X to try to get better leverage on playing time. If I see things adjusting accordingly, also having an advantage to a late swap of these slates is a big deal because a lot of people aren’t going to take advantage of it, and it matters this time of year. I’m not going to put all the screenshots in because the projections are going to show what it looks like if they run full games, and that’s just not reality here. We’re trying to find out who’s going to have the correct playing time.
