We will see George Klassen start again. I’ve neglected to talk about him yet. The projection model really likes the guy. So much so, I had to manually intervene. Here’s 2025-2026 in the minors:
He made one outing in the Majors already and it didn’t go well at all. He walked five Mariners in 2.2 innings.
We wouldn’t expect a huge walk issue since he had a pretty solid 9% BB% in the minors last year. But a 45% Ball% to start the season is not encouraging.
I checked Pitch Profiler, and that model doesn’t even like his fastball (98 proStuff+). It’s got plenty of velo (97.1), but it doesn’t have a very good movement profile, at least from that modeling perspective. So I probably wouldn’t want Klassen in fantasy leagues if I had to make a decision today.
But the model is loving over 4.5 strikeouts +100 for the betting bros.
Kris Bubic and Shota Imanaga were the pitchers of the day.
→ Bubic: 7.0IP 2H 0ER 0R 11K 1BB, 19.3% SwStr%, 33% Ball%
→ Imanaga: 6.0IP 0H 0ER 0R 9K 1BB, 18% SwStr%, 32% Ball%
Two pretty sharp picks there, they were relatively cheap in drafts. I’m still questioning if Bubic can hold up over a six-month season, but he couldn’t have started this year much better. He’s 5th in JA ERA among pitchrs with three starts.
Steven Matz also pitched well, but I wouldn’t do anything about that in fantasy.
Mike Soroka gave up four runs on five hits, and got trucked immediately in the first inning by the Phillies. But he struck out ten. So it’s been a strange season so far.
The K-BB% is above 25%, which you love to see. But he has been hit hard (.373 xwOBA). Lefties particularly have teed off (.492 xwOBA, 27.3% Brl%). We knew that was going to be an issue.
You can’t be very confident in Soroka, but he’s firmly in the 15-team league discussion, and he’s a viable streamer in good matchups if nothing else.
