I would have to admit that Munetaka Murakami has been better in fantasy leagues than I thought he would. There are a ton of walks, which help a lot in leagues with OBP or points. And the homers are coming in between strikeouts.
His profile is pretty funny.
PAs: 88
SO: 29
BB: 20
HR: 7
1B: 7
2B: 0
3B: 0
Outs: 53
As many homers as singles and zero doubles. Half of his hits are homers.
Batted ball profile:
He’s hitting very few balls directly into the ground, which is good. And the hardest contact is all in the air. His EV90 on fly balls is elite at 111, and elite on line drives at 110.1. On grounders, it’s not as good at 105.6. That’s not a problem, and I think it’s just a sign that the swing is fully tuned for hitting homers.
So this general profile, I think, can continue. And it looks like the dude will hit a mess of homers with a very low average but a pretty decent OBP.
Kevin McGonigle continues to make the other rookie hitters look like… rookies.
Great OPS, more walks than strikeouts (as usual, but I didn’t expect to see it this soon as the MLB level). xwOBA checks out:
The .354 BABIP is high, but the 44% Sweet Spot% and launch angle profile makes him look like a higher than average BABIP guy. Maybe .325 is a reasonable expectation?
