Maybe I just shorted Connor Prielipp yesterday. His slider registered a 112 Stuff+. That’s second-best in the league to Ryan Helsley! It’s ahead of Jacob deGrom. I also didn’t realize that he was a left-handed pitcher. I had (obviously) never seen the guy pitch live, so I just went ahead and assumed he was righty. And that will work more often than not, but in this case, it made me look a bit silly.
He’s a priority in weekend FAAB, and I’m fine with calling him a must-own guy right now in 12-teamers. The upside is there.
But he’s probably not as big of a priority as Payton Tolle.

18 whifs, a 19.4% SwStr%, a 32.3% Ball%. It was a crazy good start for Tolle. Better than anybody expected. Last year in his short MLB time, he threw his four-seamer 64% of the time. He had a cutter at 20%, a change at 6%, a slider at 5%, and a curve at 5%. Last night, it looked like this:
Shaved 15 points off of the four-seamer in favor of a bunch of sinkers and curves. That’s a really good mix. You do want him to throw the four-seamer a ton, because it’s an awesome pitch, but 64% was a bit too predictable. And now he has the sinker averaging similar velo to play off of it. Those two pitches are going to look a lot like each other out of the hand. His curveball was devastating last night wiht a 47% SwStr% and a 67% Strike% on 15 pitches.
The sky would seem to be the limit for Tolle, and you should add him wherever you can.
21 whiffs for deGrom aas he dominated the Pirates. That was after a start where he didn’t have much command. But deGrom is up to a 35% K%, a 6% BB%, and that’s a 29% K-BB%. He’s #1 in JA SIERA.

I think it’s a good time to see if you can get someone to buy Glasnow high from you. The numbers are fantastic, there’s no question about his ability. A 32% K%, a crazy low 6% BB% this year, and a 45% GB% with a .235 xwOBA allowed. The curveball is sick and his great velo and extension make him one of the toughest guys in the league to hit.
But he’s going to miss time. He’s 33 innings in now. That’s 100 away from the best he’s ever done. And his season average is like 100 innings. So you might be 1/3rd of the way done with Glasnow’s season now.
Not the most dominating outing for Schlittler with 11 whiffs and a 11.5% SwStr%. But the Red Sox had no answers for him and we’ve already seen him #2 in the league in SIERA.
The weather in Wrigley hurt him yesterday, probably. He gave up two homers. But he got through seven innings and the Cubs offense gave him an easy win against Cristopher Sanchez and the struggling Phillies.
But I can’t say Cabrera has looked good at any point this year. A 5:0 K:BB was great to see yesterday, but it was his second straight start under a 10% SwStr%.
He was a whiffs guy in the past, but those aren’t coming this year. He’s thrown 80 sinkers with no whiffs. His four-seamer (18% usage) only has a 7.6% SwStr% and a 35% Strike%. These fastballs have been super garbage, so he’s crazy reliant on his changeup and curveball, and neither of those pitches are good enough to carry him either. It’s all looking pretty bad for E-Cab.
A 58% Ball% and five walks had him out of there in the second inning. Not a good one. And not even enough pitches for us to look at. Probably just a blip and unfortunate timing to not have your command. He only had walked two batters in 13.2 innings in AAA.
If you had him, I wouldn’t necessarily drop him. I’d just throw that start out and check back on him next time.
Maybe Ritchie will keep this spot in the rotation that Fuentes and he have been kinda fighting for this week. That’s a very nice box score line. The downside was a 10.1% SwStr% and a 39% Ball%, and he gave up two homers. So I’d say he was pretty lucky to do this well (.200 BABIP).
Given the history in the minors, I’m not super excited about the guy. I’d definitely be taking Prielipp and Tolle over him.
I keep criticizing this guy in the slate previews, and he keeps going out there with quality starts. He’s near the top of the list in LUCKY ERA:
That’s JA ERA vs. ERA. I didn’t even realize Jack Koch has a 2.56 ERA. That’s hilarious and that guy should probably just retire right now to preserve that.
Here’s the other way around, the guys with ERAs way higher than their JA ERA:
