Lots of offense on Friday night! Nathaniel Lowe, Matt McLain, Junior Caminero, Jonathan Aranda, Carlos Cortes, Angel Martinez, and Adley Rutschman all went yard twice.
ADLEY RUTSCHMAN
I did not notice how good he’s been with the bat, I suppose because he’s been on the IL for 40% of the season. He went from a .948 OPS to that 1.114 mark after his big performance last night.
He’s not crushing the ball by any means, but getting to some good angles and putting a lot of balls in play.
We kinda thought Sam Basallo might put him out of a job in some form this year, but he’s not been great early on.
But you can see the lines on the upswing, and the K% is under control at 23%. I think you’re going to get a really big second part of the season from Basallo. His problems have nothing to do with exit velo, it’s just a launch angle thing.
But this isn’t an either/or, those two have played in the lineup together quite a bit.
Matt McLain
A two-homer night in April helps your stats a lot. But McLain is still at a .213/.339/.330 slash line. The good news is a .340 xwOBA, a 23% K%, a 14% BB5, and a 10.3% Brl%.
But the launch angle histogram is a mess.
You really want it to look something like this:
That’s Murakami.
