It’s Sunday morning, so I’m not going to write much here. I’m going to church and then I have my own first baseball game of the season at noon. I play in this men’s wood bat league in South Bend, Indiana. It’s not impressive competition, to say the least. And I’m not a good baseball player, to say the least. But I can get the bat to the ball, I can still run pretty well, and I can pick up a ball off the ground and throw it to first most of the time.
Cole Ragans and Zack Wheeler were the big stories of the day in my view.

That was the highest SwStr% of the season.
The fastball velo was 94.7. That’s down 1.4mph from last year. But it was up from what we saw in his early rehab appearances, where we had Statcast data.
20% SwStr% on the heater even at sub-95. The curveball cooked and he had six total pitches in the repertoire.

So the fastball is worse, but it looks like he might be able to be fine without the elite fastball. Or maybe the elite fastball will fully return! This is only his first start in the Majors. So it was very good news for Wheeler.
