Bryce Miller - 5.0IP 5H 4ER 4R 5K 2BB
It’s not good right now Bryce Miller. Maybe we just got too excited about the breakout when he came back and pitched like an SP1 for a few weeks. But he’s not the same guy lately.
First 8 GS: 1.71 ERA, 0.66 WHIP, 33% K%, 2.7% BB%, 1.2 HR/9
Last 6 GS: 4.59 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 17.5% K%, 7.0% BB%, 1.6 HR/9
That’s a massive drop in strikeout rate. Since July 9th he has just an 11.1% SwStr% with a 14.3% K% and a 4.86 JA SIERA. He hasn’t gotten hit super hard, and he’s still been a lot better at home (21% K%, 3.79 JA SIERA), but he hasn’t been a good fantasy baseball pitcher for the last month. But I guess he’s healthy and certainly not leaving the rotation. Kade Anderson is not coming this weekend, the Mariners have already announced their next few probables. Kade hasn’t pitched since July 31st, so I guess he’ll make a start in AA this weekend and they’ll continue to roll without him. I should probably just move on from that idea entirely. Who knows if he’d even be any good in the Majors.
But if you thought you had a stud pitcher in Bryce Miller back in June, you were apparently wrong.
Ranger Suarez - 3.0IP 3H 3ER 4R 3K 2BB
The pitch count was 71, but that was probably just about the workload it took him to get those nine outs. HE was not good. Fuor whiffs, a 42.3% Ball%. Didn’t have it. That Sox v Sox game was a wild one.
The White Sox used eight pitchers, the Red Sox used nine, and of course, Boston came out with the win. Brayan Bello earned the win with two innings of relief.
Ranger’s pitch mix data last night:
A 59% Ball% on the sinker is pretty much a death knell. He needs to use that pitch to get ahead in counts to set up the rest of his stuff, and when he doesn’t have it, things like this can happen. He’s never been a reliable top-of-the-rotation arm in fantasy leagues.
Not to take too much away from him, this season has been very strong for him.
Highest strikeout rate of his recent career and the walk rate is still very good at 7%. And, as always, he’s incredibly tough to get out of the ballpark with a 0.5 HR/9.
You keep starting him and believ that he’ll have very good outings, but there will be some clunkers in there like usual.
Rough debuts for a couple of big name SPs who were traded:
Foster Griffin - 4.0IP 7H 5ER 5R 6K 2BB
Luis Castillo - 4.0IP 6H 5ER 5SO 1BB
Griffin gave two homers. His last four haven’t been good. He has a 5.87 ERA with a 1.57 WHIP on a 13% K% in that time. Who knows what that’s about. Maybe the league’s figuring him out, maybe he’s breaking down, maybe it’s just a random “cold” streak. Who is to say? He’s very reliant on deception and called strikes and weak contact and all of that. He has a 8.4% SwStr% these last four, which is really, really low. But a .342 BABIP hasn’t helped him out during this stretch.
Luis Castillo just isn’t that good anymore, and leaving Seattle would seem to be a bad thing for him.
I’m not going to have any interest in either guy next year. Griffin probably won’t end up being super expensive next year as people balk at the lower strikeuot rate and stuff, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s just not good from now on.
Dustin May - 6.0IP 3H 2ER 2R 5K 3BB
Pretty good debut from May in a Brewers uniform. Pretty typical result. A few walks, middling whiffs (11 whiffs, 11.3% SwStr%), but limited the damage. He gave up a home run to Brandon Lowe, just the eighth he’s given up all year and the first sinec June 21st.
May’s not a guy the Brewers will be thrilled to have on the mound in a huge playoff game, but he’s their SP4 right now so the pressure isn’t really on him.

Drohan? Gasser?
I guess it’s Drohan for the fifth spot until the postseason begins. Or maybe it’s a six-man rotation. Yeah, that’s probably it. Six decent starters, and they have to like the idea of taking it easy on all three of those top dogs.
They sent Brandon Sproat down. That dude was looking fine until he threw a couple of wild pitches in that Pirates game I talked about the other day. That was so funny. A few walks early on, and then two wild pitches, and they yank him mid at bat, and then to make it even funnier they demote him after the start. The Brewers have no patience for wild pitches, apparently.
Nolan McLean - 5.0IP 8H 5ER 5R 8K 3BB
Eight strikeouts on eight whiffs and then eight hits and five runs allowed. McLean may be the toughest pitchers to roster in fantasy leagues this year. He has a 3.51 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP on a high 28.5% K%. But he’s given up 5+ earned runs four times now and 3+ seven times in 23 starts. More good than bad, but you’re never confident when he takes the mound.
The Mets are drawing dead. McLean has thrown 131 innings this year, but he did throw 162 last year, so I don’t see any reason they’d shut him down early. You’d think they’d want to see him build up to 170 innings or so after the 160 last year, so he should be taking the ball on schedule.
Framber Valdez - 7.0IP 5H 0ER 0R 5K 2BB
One of his best starts of the year. It’s been up-and-down:
An 18.5% K% now with an 8.1% BB%. He’s never been a high strikeout pitcher, but 18% is really low even for him. And it hasn’t come with improvements in the walk rate. The 55% GB% and home run suppression helps him out greatly, as it always has, but it’s another guy you just can’t trust start to start. Two good ones in a row now, though, and that’s the first time he’s gone over 20 points in consecutive starts this year.
David Peterson - 5.0IP 7H 1ER 1R 3K 3BB
This could be it for Peterson in the Cubs rotation with Holmes & Braxton Garrett joining the mix this weekend. But he’s served them pretty well in that role. Besides the ten earned runs he gave up in his first start… that hurt. But since then:
That’s a 1.57 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. Kinda lucky no doubt, but a lot better than what he was doing with the Mets. Just get players onto the Cubs and Brewers and they’ll be better, I guess.

Garrett/Assad/Peterson might duel it out for the fifth spot or something. But Peterson shouldn’t be the choice. Neither should Assad. Just give Braxton Garrett a shot at it. That’s my take, which means nothing.
Dylan Cease - 7.0IP 2H 0ER 0R 10K 1BB
Just a super mega stud. He’s having one of the most ridiculous seasons I’ve ever seen. The Blue Jays knew exactly what to do with him, apparently, and he’s setup nicely. He did hit the IL for like a week or two this year, which was the first time, but he’s on his way to another 150+ inning season and he has been elite in every facet of pitching this year.
The walk rate has increased, but he’s also juiced the K% up six points, so that’s a trade you will take every time. It’s a 26% K-BB%. The most impressive thing to me is the 0.5 HR/9. The changeup coming into play has solved that.
Makes you wonder… if he could just develop a good changeup, why didn’t the White Sox or Padres do that?
It also makes you wonder if he won’t be severely over-priced next year. You’d think that next year’s draft will look something like

I don’t know, don’t quote me on that. But Skenes and Crochet certainly are going to fall outside of the top five, maybe outside of the top ten, and Cease has clearly been a top three SP in the game this year.

Wins are highly valued in the roto leagues, and those are random and not something we factor much in ranking for next year.
The lesson we learned LAST YEAR was that you CAN take starters early. Because the top three off the board (Skubal/Skenes/Crochet) all smashed in 2025. But we’ve learned the opposite this year. Those three were the top three again, and they’ve all disappointed at least a little bit. Crochet has been injured, Skenes has kinda sucked, and Skubal missed a few weeks to injury. You’re feeling fine about having Skubal, of course, but he’s not in the top ten because of the 102.1 innings being way behind the leaders and having just seven wins.
Bailey Ober - 6.0IP 6H 3ER 3R 0K 0BB
A zero-strikeout quality start. How often does this happen? I am equipped to answer that question. That’s why I asked it. It’s happened FIVE times this year. You already know that Wrobleski and Nick Martinez are on that list. Jags.
Only 11 pitchers have made it through five innings with no strikeouts.
It’s a tough thing to pull off. You have to be very lucky to get through even a few innings without any strikeouts.
Bailey Ober has found a way to survive even though his stuff is completely gone. It was just two years ago he had a 27% K%.
So he loses more than ten points in K% from then, but his ERA only goes up half of a run. He’s at a career low HR/9 (1.35) and HR/FB (10.1%), which is how he’s pulled this off.
But why am I talking this much about Bailey Ober?
Andrew Abbott - 6.67IP 7H 3ER 3R 4K 2BB
Brandon Young - 4.33IP 6H 3ER 3R 4K 2BB
Two popular streaming options this week. Abbott got a QS and a W, so that was a victory, I suppose. Young led the day with 14 whiffs, which is a really low total to lead the day with. Neither guy shoved in the elite matchups.
But I would continue to stream heavily against the Angels and Nationals right now.

Miles Mikolas - 5.0IP 12H 6ER 6R 1K 1BB
It was kinda funny seeing Zack Littell be the one who got cut over the weekend.
Littell definitely out-pitched the dude, and he’s seven years younger. There’s gotta be some reason for that. Maybe just veteran deference or something. But yeah Mikolas has a 5.73 ERA. He has the 12th-worst xFIP for pitchers above 90 innings:
But hey, a third of a run better than Littell. I hope that was the Nationals explanation to Littell. He’s like damn I’m getting cut with Miles Mikolas also on the team?? And they’re like xFIP bro kick freaking rocks!!!
Big day from Chase Meidroth with TWO homers. Even though he didn’t even start! The guy just matched Justin Crawford’s HR total in 340 PA FROM THE BENCH.
Meidroth now has 11 homers. He hit five last year in 11 more games.
Pretty good ballplayer, it seems. .758 OPS, little bit of power. Remember that he ripped a dinger off of Misiorowski in Miz’s first game.
Meidroth doesn’t like to swing (41%), so he takes some walks (10%), but pitchers aren’t very afraid of him so they’re happy to pipe the ball in there and see what he acn do with it. He makes a good amount of contact (87% Z-Cont%), but it’s not Kwan/Arraez level elite. His EVs suck though (100.5 EV90, 100.4 on fly balls), so he’s probably one of those guys who is much better in real life than in the fantasy game. But good for him hitting two dingers.
Ronald Acuna Jr. also hit two homers, SORTA.

Opposite field, pretty impressive power, but neither of these homers flew very far.
Was this the least total number of feet on homers for a two-homer game of the year? Many people are asking.
Not quite!
Marcus Semien also had a big game with a homer and three hits. His performance since the break:

Still not good but the homers are going at least. He’s had a bad season like most of the rest of his teammates. Just a really bad offseason from the Mets. All of their hitter acquisitions have been, in a word, ass.
That’s a lot of money for a .630 OPS.
Kevin McGonigle homered again. The power is coming along.
March-May: .286/.390/.410, 3 HR, 85 PA/HR
June-August: .283/.392/.454, 9 HR, 27 PA/HR
He will probably end up with a 15-15 season or so with a high batting average and a super high OBP. Very good player, and he’s on his way to a ROY award.
Francisco Lindor hit another bomb. He has five in the second half with a 17 PA/HR and an .857 OPS. Just in time, bro! The Mets are just a disaster. Lindor isn’t off the hook either. The injuries have mattered, obviously, but it’s his lowest OPS since 2021:
And he’ll turn 33 this winter. Which is old as crap.
One other thing before I leave. Ryan Weathers shows up in a very interesting spots below.
He has cut the four-seam usage a ton lately in favor of sinker and sweepers, and that his GB% through the roof.
That’s probably by design to try to reduce the homers, and it’s been working. No homers and just one run given up in his last three outings, and he’s still gotten 17 strikeouts in the last three, so he hasn’t had to give up the punchouts to make this happen.
