Introduction / Explanation For New Readers
It was a very limited slate of games yesterday. Less than half the total pitches thrown yesterday as compared to Wednesday.
Notable Noteworthy Notes
Eloy Jimenez went yard and is now hitting .301/.372/.486 with 11 homers, a 15.6% Brl%, and a great 20.7% K% in 242 plate appearances. Per game, he’s been one of the best hitters in the damn league, but he continues to struggle to just stay on the field.
Corbin Burnes went nuts with 14 strikeouts. It feels to me like strikeouts are up recently, but they are not. The league has struck out at a 22.5% clip since August 15th, which is just 0.2 points higher than the season average of 22.3%.
Yoan Moncada went double-doink to put some icing on another bad season. He has racked up just 337 PAs with a .211/.276/.344 line. Last year he walked a bunch and made a good amount of contact, but this year the BB% is down to 7.7% and the contact rate is down to 71%. It’s come with slightly more power with an 8.7% Brl%, but basically, this guy isn’t much of a fantasy asset.
There’s some pitcher named Tyler Cyr in the league, so that’s just an insanely ridiculous last name. I at first assumed it was a scripting bug from me like cutting off this guy’s last name, but nope - that’s his name!
Shea Langeliers rocked a foul ball 114 miles per hour. He has a strong 11.4% Brl% in 77 PAs but a 42% K%, and a laughable 55% contact%. Just another classic young dude with talent that just can’t handle big league pitching on first try. To put that 55% contact rate into perspective, here are the bottom 10 contact rates this year for players with at least 100 PAs
