Lots of stuff happening. I’ve got a waiver wire article coming, John Allen has a “buys and sells” pair of articles coming, and Tim has finished his ridiculous massive voluminous top 150 prospect re-rank. He goes into detail on all of them. So that will be coming out as we go, and we’ll get the page on the app updated soon with that updated top 150.
I’m pretty sure the Stuff+ marks on my dashboard are completely wrong for the last couple of weeks. None of it really makes any sense. So I’m going to try to figure that out today.
The wind got to them again in Wrigley. Shota Imanaga has now given up 26 earned runs in his last four starts.
→ First 9 GS: 2.48 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 28% K%, 6% BB%
→ Last 4 GS: 10.80 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, 15.5% K%, 6% BB%
That’s 12 homers given up in four starts. An incredible thing to do.
It’s actually just 11, if we’re being fair, because this happened to him:
So that’s too bad.
But this is the kinda STUFF you make yourself available to when you have low velo and a super high fly ball rate.
There are three pitchers outdoing Imanaga in FB% this year. Nelson, Ray, and Taillon.
But it’s a bad situation. Six homers given up on the four-seamer, six on the splitter… yikes.
He’s one of only two pitchers in the league to have given up 5+ homers on two different pitches. The other is Zack Littell (five on the four-seamer, five on the sinker).
Your MLB leaders in giving up homers.

Two Cubs at the top! They could use some rotation help. Although they did find a way to win that game last night, pretty amazing.
You know who doesn’t care about the wind? JT Ginn.
Ginn now has a 1.49 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP in his last six starts. 37:13 K:BB, 0.74 HR/9.
The 48% GB% and .306 xwOBA is the key. He’s good at limiting hard contact. He’s not great at getting whiffs, and he doesn’t pound the strike zone, but he’s getting the job done. Against righties, he’s been awesome with a .259 xwOBA allowed and a 26% K%. He’s pretty, pretty good!
He was quite good. Fastball velo came back:
18 whiffs, 18.8% SwStr%, .255 xwOBA. Great sign there, a big sigh of relief if you have Rodon
Did pretty well here. 13 whiffs, a 17.6% SwStr%.
It all looks pretty weak for Giolito through three starts. More walks than strikeouts still, but I suppose we shouldn’t judge him too harshly on the very first couple of outings.
His fastball is at 90.7mph. That’s down 1.5mph from last year. It might come back, this guy isn’t that old. He might just be ramping up. But I think the fact that nobody wanted to sign Giolito tells you enough of what you need to know for your fantasy leagues.
74 pitches, 12 whiffs, 16.2% SwStr%, 40.5% Ball%. So he didn’t have the command, but survived five innings. He was pretty lucky with a .353 xwOBA allowed. The fastball and slider are both nasty. It’s really just a question of the command. I think you start Jones in all leagues for now, but we need to keep an eye on the BB% and the home run rate allowed. Because I think those two things could be a problem for the guy.
Turns out this guy was one of the best picks in fantasy drafts this year.
Pitching mostly like his usual self. A little bit less on the strikeout front, and already five homers given up, so there’s some reason for slight concern. But a lot of being a stud MLB pitcher is just knowing how to pitch. And Wheeler certainly knows how to do that, so he’ll be able to survive a lost in quality of stuff more than other guys.
The hell was that? The fastball got worked. Just a 4.9% SwStr% and a .416 xwOBA on it.
It was a .500 BABIP, but still a high .278 xBA allowed. I wouldn’t react to it, I guess. He didn’t lose velo on the fastball or anything like that, the Blue Jays just got the bats to it.
He wasn’t really fooling anybody last night. 10 whiffs, a bad 44.8% Strike%. He’s meh. There’s no real upside with him, and he’s going to have bad starts when the breaking balls aren’t being located well.
Nothing special here with the 3:1 K:BB, but he took care of a bad Red Sox lineup, and did throw a ton of strikes for a 55.2% Strike% and 24.1% Ball%.
He’s back to AAA! Demoted after that obliteration. And the Red Sox are going to be without Garrett Crochet for awhile longer, we found that out this week. So here’s what they’re rolling with
Sonny Gray
Ranger Suarez
Payton Tolle
Connelly Early
??
They need someone to take that fifth spot until Crochet gets back.
Could it be Jake Bennett? What happened to Kutter Crawford, Pablo Sandoval, and Johan Oviedo? All got hurt, I guess.
Another one! His K-BB% is up THE WHOLE WAY TO 11% now WHOOPDEEDOO. He has a .243 BABIP with a 6% HR/FB. He’s still been quite lucky, but he’s been legitimately good under the hood the last five:
So you can keep going with the dude. He brought you to the dance, might as well dance with him.
A 41-point explosion from Jackson Chourio! 2 dingers, four runs, four RBI, and a walk. The Giants/Brewers game was a doozy:
31 hits, 22 runs.
Chourio has a .308/.373/.505 slash this year with four homers and five steals. 18.4% Brl%! And he’s not swinging nearly as much (46%) as before. THE BABIP IS A BIT HIGH - .403. The xBA is .240, so that’s a down point. But he’s very good for fantasy leagues and it looks like he’s healthy and playing at his best right now.
Two more bombs from Kody Clemens, who is kinda meh, even in this good year he’s having. Eight bombs, but a .236 average. He has 27 homers in his 170 games going back to last year. So he can do that. His K% is 24% last year and 23% this year, and he’s playing a bunch, starting 7 of the last 8 for the Twins.
Casey Schmitt continues to mash. An .844 OPS now with 13 homers and five steals.
Willy Adames has been great:
Bryce Eldridge had three hits yesterday and ropped his season K% to 23.5%. He has only two homers in 22 games. But the power is huge, so those should come, and it’s very good to see him not having a huge strikeout issue. His zone contact rate is 87%, which I wouldn’t have believed could happen before the season started.
And Jung Hoo Lee has been cruising as well. He’s up to .322/.356/.447 on the year with three homers.
Base hit machine, but not much else fantasy value in the profile.
So the Giants have been pretty good for the last month. They have these guys all over a .770 OPS:
Think twice before you target them with SPs.
Isaac Paredes has back-to-back games with a homer. That gives him three in the last seven games and eight on the yaer with a 3.3% HR%. No steals, a sub-.240 batting average like always. So he’s only good for one thing, but at least he’s doing that one thing again.
