Pitcher Reports
Yesterdays Pitcher Debuts
Gerrit Cole (NYY): 6.0IP, 2H, 0ER, 2SO, 3BB
Jonah Tong (NYM): 3.0IP, 0H, 0ER, 2SO, 1BB
Tayron Guerrero (BOS): 1.0IP, 0H, 0ER, 1SO, 1BB
Jonathan Hernandez (LAD): 1.0IP, 0H, 0ER, 0SO, 0BB
This little intro report popped up a couple of weeks ago. It will draw your attention to MLB season debuts.
So we saw Gerrit Cole return last night - 6.0IP 2H 0ER 0R 2K 3BB - pretty good! The fastball averaged 96.2. The lack of whiffs (6.9% SwStr%) isn’t encouraging, but it’s one start after 1.5 years off. We’ll take a closer look at Cole after his next couple of outings.
Jonah Tong also got back to it. He threw three innings in relief with no hits and two strikeouts. Cool, man! We’ll see what they do with him. I’d imagine they want him back in the rotation. I still personally think he sucks, but I could be convinced off of that.
Algo SP Ranks - Yesterday
1. Bubba Chandler
Bubba! 22 whiffs! A 36.4% Ball%! 11 strikeouts, three walks. Incredible outing from him. He threw the fastball 43% of the time, which was lower than he normally does. 18% sinkers, 18% changeups, and some sliders/curves/sweepers. I think he’s at least earned himself another turn through the rotation with that sick outing.
2. Davis Martin
3. Kevin Gausman
4. Payton Tolle
5. Cristopher Sanchez
6. Logan Henderson
Henderson passed the toughest test of his career against the Dodgers.
5.0IP 2H 0ER 0R 7K 3BB
15 whiffs, a 56.5% Strike%. He’s pretty studly, apparently. A 1.72 JA SIERA now with a 26.7% K-BB%.
7. Gavin Williams
When he’s on, he’s one of the best in the game. He and Cristopher Sanchez had that game done by like 8:30 last night.
→ 8.0IP 4H 0ER 0R 11K 0BB
8. Eury Perez
No walks for Eury.
→ 6.33IP 2H 1ER 1R 5K 0BB
Little more fastball velo too. He threw more sweepers in this one, and the four-seam usage has been down a bit as he tries to figure this stuff out. Pretty encouraging start there for the talented young righty.
9. Jacob deGrom
A DFS night ruined…
→ 3.0IP 6H 6ER 6R 3K 3BB
I had 70% deGrom and a K ladder pick. The Angels got to him. He has an elite 25% K-BB% with a 2.14 JA SIERA, but he keeps finding ways to give up runs. He’s kind of being a little weenie and he should knock that off, I have him on both of my main teams.
10. Bryce Elder
11. Jack Flaherty
Seven strikeouts for Flaherty… no walks. But still found a way to mess you up with eight hits and three earned in 3.1 innings. Total jag off.
12. Logan Gilbert
13. Trevor McDonald
McDonald got thumped.
→ 3.67IP 3H 7ER 7R 4K 1BB
Looked kinda bad luck-ish, though. A .176 xBA with a .264 xwOBA last night.
14. Spencer Arrighetti
Arrighetti’s BABIP is down to .214 with a 0% HR/FB.
15. Noah Cameron
16. Jeffrey Springs
17. Michael Soroka
→ 6.0IP 4H 1ER 1R 2K 0BB
Qualbanger! But not what you were hoping for points wise against the Road Rockies.
18. Jameson Taillon
19. Grayson Rodriguez
→ 5.67IP 7H 4ER 4R 5K 2BB
Just 8 whiffs and an 8.2% SwStr% for Grayson. Not looking good.
20. Walker Buehler
21. Gerrit Cole
22. Justin Wrobleski
→ 5.0IP 8H 5ER 5R 4K 2BB
Wrobleski’s ERA is up to 3.07 now after being a 1.25 before three starts ago. 14 ER in his last three as the regression takes its toll. It’s a beautiful thing when lucky pitchers give up a bunch of runs.
23. Nick Martinez
24. Connor Prielipp
25. Tomoyuki Sugano

2. Cristopher Sanchez: 96 Pitches, 23 Outs, 4.17 POUT
3. Gerrit Cole: 72 Pitches, 17 Outs, 4.24 POUT
I don’t think Cole is going to have anything like a high strikeout rate this year. My guess is he’s like a 24% K%, if not worse. So he’s going to have to get soft contact and get outs in other ways. Last night was a good sign for that with a .254 xwOBA allowed.

CSW% Leaders - Last 3 Weeks
Cristopher Sanchez - 116 TBF, 37.1% CSW%
I guess I ignored Sanchez above. He hasn’t given up a run since April 30th.
He and Misiorowski have both had scoreless Mays.
Three dominant pitchers at the top, and then three extremely lucky guys. Or at least very different pitchers getting outs in much different ways.

Trevor McDonald - 94 TBF, 61.5% GB%
McDonald taking over as the league’s best ground ball pitcher. His sinker has a 72% GB% on it. Overall, he’s at 62% as shown here. With Jose Soriano throwing more four-seamers, he’s dropped into the 50s. So it’s McDonald, Sanchez, and Pallante in the poll positions for the GB% crown. An illustrious award. There’s the MVP, the Cy Young, and the GB% Award.

Hitter Reports
Multiple Barrels
Carson Benge (NYM) 4 PA, 5 Swings, 2 Barrels, 0 HR
Benge is up to an 8.3% Brl% now. He’s not really a power hitter with three homers and very few air pulls, but the EV90 overall is up to 105.3 now, so he can hit some homers. And he’s hitting .338/.393/.442 in May. Plus eight steals on the year. He’s a good fantasy league option.
Jesus Sanchez (TOR) 4 PA, 14 Swings, 2 Barrels, 0 HR
Michael Busch (CHC) 5 PA, 9 Swings, 2 Barrels, 0 HR
Busch has been awesome with a 20.8% Brl% in May. .977 OPS, but only 2 homers to show for it on a .458 xwOBA.

I saw this guy playing for the South Bend Cubs (A+) a few years ago. He has a .295/.338/.393 slash line with a .280 xBA and a .347 xwOBA for the Blue Jays this year. A 16.9% K% with a 6.2% BB% and a 107.3 EV90. He came to Toronto in the trade that sent Nate Pearson to the Cubs. Pinango looks pretty good at the dish through 65 PAs and should have your attention in deep leagues.
