I wrote a couple of articles last night, just in case you missed them. I’m going to rip through all 30 teams, grading and thus re-ranking their SPs. I started with the NL East:
And some weekend streaming help for daily changes leagues is here:
If you lost Tarik Skubal this week, that sucks. There’s this story that he might only miss 4-6 weeks, but that sounds ridiculous to me. You cannot replace a Skubal. But you have to try.
Maybe Griffin Jax could be that replacement. He worked up to 59 pitches yesterday as he transitions from the bullpen to a starting pitcher role. He’s made three starts in a row now:
You love the 15.6% SwStr% and 34.8% Ball% with the 56% GB%. He’s thrown five pitches above 10% usage. And his stuff+ has been fine as a starter. He won’t be touching 99 with the fastball while he’s trying to throw 75+ pitches, so there’s not going to be a 30% K% here, we don’t think. But he could find himself in a 25-27% K% with a nice walk rate and could be very good.
How many innings will the Rays let him throw per start and for the rest of the year? Probably not a ton, but who knows? They really need him right now after trading Shane Baz and losing Ryan Pepiot for the year. I’d add the guy next week ahead of his next start.
This was on Wednesday, but I let you all down not writing the notes yesterday. So we should have a look at Walbert again.
→ 22% K%
→ 15% BB%
→ 11.8% SwStr%
→ 52% GB%
→ 4.17 JA ERA
Nothing special. He has a good changeup and a sinker. So he can keep the ball on the ground and be half-decent. He’s like a 15-team league streamer. And maybe he’ll pitch his way into 12-team streamer territory. But the Stuff+ overall doesn’t look all that great like we thought it was going to after he came out ripping with a ton more velo.
They were both dominant on Wednesday. Both going eight innings. Skenes gave up nothing, Eovaldi just one. Eovaldi has stayed healthy and has pitched really well again this year. A 2.99 JA ERA won an 18.5% K-BB% and a 16.5 SwStr%. He’s very good.
He might get into cut territory. He’s been bad.
But the 27% K% has me wanting to hold on. We have seen him go on runs of dominance before, so you have to hold onto a little bit of hope that he could do that at some point this year, especially with pitching in Arlington now.
There’s no bad luck in the profile, he’s simply been wild (38% Ball%) and hittable. I don’t think I’d drop him in a ten or 12 teamer yet, it’s hard to release a 27% K% rate. Unless like Payton Tolle or Logan Henderson are still available. I’d do that.
He got jacked up right from the beginning. And now he’s down to a 12% K-BB% with a .350 xwOBA allowed.
He has to get away from the four-seamer. It’s not wokring at all. It’s fourth-worst in the league at getting swinging strikes (among four-seamers):
It’s one of just eight four-seamers thrown 250+ times getting his for an xwOBA above .400:
The good news for Painter, like I said in last night’s article, is that he has other pitches to fall back on. It’s never good when a guy doesn’t have a good fastball they can throw 40% of the time with at least moderate success. But Painter has a slider, sinker, curveball, sweeper, and splitter to mix in. He could get down to 30% four-seam usage, maybe boost up the sinker a bit, and then hope he can win with the slider and curve. I wouldn’t bet on it, and I think he’s just a drop at this point, but there’s a path to. future success.
The Reds are just handing out wins, so this wasn’t that impressive for Imanaga. There’s clearly something in the script where the Cubs just aren’t allowed to lose this year because the New World Order doesn’t want anybody to have any joy in their life. They want to drag us down so we lose motivation and because easy to manipulate. That’s what happening here.
Imanaga has been so good this year.
A 21% K-BB%, a 16.9% SwStr%, a 35% Ball%, a 2.94 JA ERA. The 35% GB% is still very low, but the 47 PA/HR has been really good. He’s not going to keep that up, he’ll give up more homers, but this is like a +8 on the K% this year from last, and that alone takes away a lot of homers. Imanaga SP1!
His velo was +1. And he got it working against the Padres. But still, he’s been awful this year and we don’t think much of him.
But he re-captured some of that spring success.
It’s really hard to have success with a low K% in the Majors these days. The lowest K% in the league among 6+ GS pitchers:
Woods Richardson 11%
Quintana 11%
Houser 11%
S Gray 13%
Bassitt 13%
Lorenzen 14%
Sugano 15%
Singer 15%
Gallen 15%
Willamson 15%
Marquez 15%
Bello 15%
Abbott 15%
That is everybody at or below 15%. Pretty shocking to see Sonny Gray there.
A 7.8% SwStr% is unheard of for him. His walk rate is pretty good, but pretty much every time the batter wants to hit the ball, they do. He’s earning very few strikes.
All four of his top pitches are under a 10% SwStr%. He used to get a ton of whiffs on the curve and cutter and stuff, but nothing has worked this year. He’s a veteran, and I think he’ll get it going eventually, but it’s also possible he’s just lost it. The Red Sox are having one of the worst seasons they could have imagined. Which doesn’t bother me, screw those guys.
This was in Coors, so you count that as a success. Scott walked five in that first start, but he’s at a 14:2 K:BB since then.
The K% is up to 31% now, but the walks.. the walks. It’s still a 15% BB%, but I guess that’s almost all because of the weird first start.
I don’t believe he has a good enough fastball to be a truly good fantasy starter, but the sweeper is good and he can mix it up. I think he’s a 12-team guy.
Looks like Brent Rooker is feeling better. He’s at a 12% Brl% since returning from the IL now, and he has two homers an an 18% Brl% in May.
JJ Bleday now has a .303/.395/.727 slash line with a 23% Brl% and a .529 xwOBA in 38 PAs. Too small of a sample, but if you can add him for free, I’d do it. The new team and park and regular playing time might create a big-time breakout.
Moises Ballesteros is benefiting from the league’s rigging things for the Cubs. I’m just kidding about that, by the way. I don’t think anything nefarious is going on with the Cubs. Just regular old positive variance for a team that is well above average. Here’s the Ballesteros profile:
Nice line so far. Six bombs, a 14% Brl%, and a 16% K%. He’s not seeing lefties (7 PA), and he’s DH only. That makes him pretty close to unrosterable in standard fantasy leagues, but the guy can hit. His EVs haven’t been much (103.6 EV90), so I’m not sure if he’s really a 14% Brl% guy. I’m pretty down on him for fantasy leagues for all of the reasons I just described.
Some xwOBA OE leaders of the last three weeks that are available in your leagues:
Mark Vientos +.105 (.398 xwOBA)
Casey Schmitt +0.080
Nathaniel Lowe +.062

Nathan Church +.030
Nick Gonzales +.026
Edouard Julien +.024

Sam Antonacci +.020
Ryan McMahon +.017
Here are your luckiest pitchers of the year:
Eventually, Schlittler and Imanaga are going to give up some homers. They’re both very good, and they have all of the elite marks we’re looking for, but the homers and some more hits when runners are on base are due.
Your unluckiest pitchers:
It’s somewhat comforting if you’re still holding onto Kyle Bradish. The .385 BABIP is ridiculously high and he’s given up a high HR/FB with a high RISP H% as well. I still think he’s pretty garbage, but the variance has certainly not gone his way to say the least.
I’m just randomly going back and forth to pitchers and hitters, but did you realize that Shea Langeliers is hitting .338 now? His K% is 21%. And the homers keep coming. He’s an elite hitter.
He just stopped striking out in the middle of last year. Since July 1st, 2025:
→ .318/.361/.621, 31 HR, 3 SB in 440 PA
If we look at the second half of last year (after the all star break) and this year, and then go to OPS leaders:
MICKEY MONIAK! Incredible career turnaround for that guy. It’s not all bad in Colorado, after all.
The lowest OPS since last all star break:
I guess I was wrong and stupid about Ezequiel Tovar for the third straight year. Maybe I’ll learn my lesson next year. I bet he’s still near the top of the chase rate leaderboard. Let’s see:
Number one baby!
That’s it for me. I’m heading to Cleveland for Twins/Guards tonight. And it looks like it should be 60 degrees and dry. I’ve been watching that stupid weather forecast all week. It’s Parker Messick vs. Conor Prielipp, two young lefties. If you’re there and wanna say what up, hit me up on X!
