Introduction / Explanations for New Readers
It is the All-Star Break! Let’s put a bow on the first half here and then sail off into the sunset for a three-day break. This is Daily Notes post #101 of the year, and man has it been a fun time!
Tableau is still broken, and I have confirmed that it’s something on their end, not mine. That should mean it will get fixed soon. Since the problem popped up late last week I imagine they’ll fix it early on this week since I doubt Tableau developers are doing stuff on the weekends for their non-paid users. I might explore going to a full paid membership to Tableau though to see if that really adds to what I can do here.
The two standout pitchers yesterday were Jake Odorizzi and Mike Clevinger.
Since the Tableau is broken I have to go to the SP Roundup Google Sheet like a peon!
Here is Odorizzi, yesterday:
Odorizzi has always been a guy that gets whiff with his four-seamer, so the 18% isn’t as shocking as it normally would be. It’s also interesting to see him use a splitter that well. He’s been pitching well recently and might be worth some kind of add (although this start was against the Athletics).
As for Clevinger:
It was a softer matchup with the Diamondbacks as well, but that four-seamer was cooking. A 25.7% SwStr% on that pitch is not to be expected, but the marks on the cutter and changeup are excellent to see, and it’s interesting that he threw six different pitches. He’s shown some signs this season but hasn’t been able to put it together yet, but I think it could happen for him in the second half - he’s an interesting guy to buy low on right now.
