Connelly Early what in the world! And what a name. I’ve never heard of someone named “Early”. Wish the guys name was Earl. Earl Early.
But this is another pitcher I just had no idea about. There are so many of these prospects that get called up before I ever know about them. I need to up my dynasty bonafides. This year in the minors:
32% K%, 9.5% BB%, 2.60 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 0.45 HR/9
Great stuff. He has a 93-95mph fastball and then a deep arsenal behind it. He put up 19 whiffs yesterday and threw six different pitches, throwing five of them double-digit times.
It’s an elite start. I mean one of the better outings of the entire year. A 21.1% SwStr% with a 32% Ball% and a 56% GB%. That is really interesting. I suppose he should be picked up ahead of his next start if you’re looking for a pitcher still.
This was his highest strikeout total all season. So it’s not as though he was just punching out 15 minor leaguers every time out and then saw that come down a little bit against these better hitters. There was plenty of good fortune here, and it’s no guarantee that he’ll have another good start in the Majors. Butt ehre are many MLB pitchers who will never put up a start like that, so we can say there’s serious upside there. Very interesting debut this late in the year!
Emmet Sheehan was an auto-start yesterday against the Rockies, and he did not disappoint.
7 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 9 SO, 1 BB
Sheehan has a 31% K% and a 6.6% BB% in his last six starts. I think he’s pitching his way into the 2026 Dodgers rotation. And he should have a spot on the postseason roster as well. Good for those of you in fantasy who ended up with him for the playoffs.
Other playoff heroes from last night:
Ranger Suarez: 6 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 12 SO, 3 BB
Joey Cantillo: 8 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 5 SO, 0 BB
Kyle Bradish: 7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 6 So, 2 BB
Michael King is back again. Maybe it’s a little tough to use him for the rest of the year. But the Padres will want to get him back going 100% for the playoffs. He fired off five innings last night but didn’t have the strikeout going with just a 2:1 K:BB. It’s been a disappointing season second for King because of the injuries. And the performance hasn’t been pristine when on the field with a 26.3% K%, a 7.8% BB%, an 11.4% SwStr%, and a 3.10 JA ERA. Those are solid numbers, but not SP1 type stuff.
We saw Teoscar Hernandez get it going last night. He homered twice. But it has been a tougher season for Teoscar.
.247/.283/.456, 23 HR, 25.4% K%, 4.8% BB%
A drop in the power production, and that hurts when the guys whole game (for fantasy) is that power production. It just seems like everything is coming together for the Dodgers. The pitching staff is mostly healthy, and these slumping bats are waking up.
Pete Crow-Armstrong stole two bags and had a couple of hits. He is going to be a tough case to study in the offseason. He was an MVP type player in the first half, but this second half has ruined him. He’s down to a .290 OBP.
I’m guessing that everybody who drafted him is still starting him now. And that’s been a tough thing to do, but hey you got a couple of steals last night to make up for some of it.
Harrison Bader is hitting .333/.398/.533 with four homers in a Phillies uniform. This is Harrison Bader we’re talking about. It’s not as though he found the secret elixir in Philly and is now a great hitter.
Bader wRC+ by Year
2021: 108
2022: 84
2023: 69
2024: 85
2025: 125
But something is going on here! I mean he’s been good all year with a .275/.352/.456 slash line. He has 15 homers and 10 steals. Sneaky good production. And he’s pretty widely available still.
Jeremiah Jackson has not been an everyday bat for the Orioles, but he’s making his case. Another homer last night. His MLB stats:
.314/.346/.521, .867 OPS, 23.6% K%, 9.9% Brl%, .315 xwOBA
Not a great xwOB, and the zone contact rate is down at 80%. He has been lucky. The EV90 is at 105.2. He’s never been a prolific power bat (19 homers last year in 482 PA), but he slashed a really nice .313/.342/.537 in the minors this year before getting the call. He played at about a 23-16 pace down there. And now he’s having some success in the Majors.
He’ll be mostly used against right handed pitching, and he’s slugging a big .512 against them in 88 PAs with a. 329 xwOBA. He’s a deep league target right now, but nothing to get overly excited about, I don’t think.
50 bombs for Kyle Schwarber. What a freaking player. And an Indiana kid, right?
There is a guy in the men’s league I play in that played wih Schwarber at IU. So check it out. I play in the same league as a guy who played in the same league as Kyle Schwarber. This is the transitive property telling us that I’m sort of in the same league as Schwarber.
But that fact does make the men’s league seem a lot more impressive than it is. That dude that played with Schwarber is fine, but you would never watch him play and be like man that guy could be a pro ballplayer. But I guess that’s what happens when you’re out of the game for 10+ years. I mean a 32 year old Kyle Schwarber is arguably at his best. But his 32 year old buddy who he played with in college but hasn’t played since, that’s a different story. It’s crazy how you get worse at things if you stop doing them, right?
I am definitely worse at baseball than Kyle Schwarber is. But yeah, I mean I doubt Schwarber types very fast.
Some more September hitting heroes, ordered by fantasy points scored:
Juan Soto 129
Daylen Lile 123
Jo Adell 115
Vlad Guerrero 108
Trevor Story 106
Julio Rodriguez 104
Jose Ramirez 102
Steven Kwan 100
Shohei Ohtani 100

George Springer 99
Ozzie Albies 97
Colson Montgomery 97
Yordan Alvarez 96
Matt Chapman 93
Josh Bell 93
Harrison Bader 93
Royce Lewis 92
Mookie Betts 91
Kyle Teel 91
Daylen Lile is on the Nationals. I bet there are a few readers that didn’t know that. He’s that obscure. But hey, .282/.325/.452 this year with five homers in 286 PAs. His xBA is .300! A .348 xwOBA! 11 runs scored and 7 RBI this month, he’s been terrific.
But that’s all I’ve got for today!
