Pretty incredible streaming spot tonight on Connor Prielipp against the Angels. The projection is through the roof for that spot. He has pretty respectable numbers in the second half:
16% K-BB%, .303 xwOBA allowed. The Angels are the worst lineup in the league. They’re at a .625 OPS since July 15th with a 26% K% that is third-worst only to CIN and BAL.
Kyle Tucker had three hits and three RBI in the first four innings of their game yesterday. Something has clicked for the guy and he continues to rake. Since September 4th, he has a 1.160 OPS with five homers in 51 PAs.
So he’s looking as good as ever, REAL NICE for the Dodgers.
Walbert Urena was snubbed for player of the day. I started him yesterday, so I’m pretty pleased with the guy.

22 whiffs, which makes 40 in his last two starts. He has a 16:2 K:BB over the last two. Pitch mix from these two outings:
20.4% SwStr%, driven by the changeup, but the sinker is getting in the action as well. Plus a 60% GB% and a .228 xwOBA. Since August 13th:

I mean, that’s an ace, right? He’ll be very interesting next year. I can’t see him getting super expensive. People will balk at the 23% K% and 11% BB%, and the fact that nobody knew about him until this year. But he throws triple-digit mph sinkers, and this changeup has been a wipeout putaway pitch for him lately. The guy looks extremely good.
On the other side was a 20-whiff game from Taj Bradley.

He gave up three early on but bounced back nicely. The Angels bullpen blew a three-run lead late, but they did get the win in the 10th. Bradley has stayed healthy and given the Twins 30 starts with a 3.81 ERA and 1.23 WHIP. Not a fantasy stud, but someone you’d have been happy to have for most of his starts. He now has 6+ strikeouts in five straight, and he’s one away from crossing 200 for the season.
Framber Valdez - 5.0IP 3H 3ER 3R 8K 4BB
Gave up a three-run dinger in the first to Murakami, but was otherwise pretty good with eight strikeouts. The White Sox have been a good matchup lately as Murakami and Montgomery have both been in a funk. If they’re not hitting homers, they’re not doing much of anything. So good signs for Framber there, I suppose.
Aaron Nola - 7.0IP 3H 0ER 0R 4K 3BB
I’m not real sure how he’s doing this stuff. An ugly 4:3 K:BB last night against the Mets, but the command got him through with soft contact. He got a 71% GB% last night, so that will work. Since August, Nola has a 2.15 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP on a 16% K-BB%. Maybe some luck, but that curveball is carrying him. It’s one of the best individual pitches in the league.
Nolan McLean - 6.0IP 7H 1ER 1R 5K 3BB
Five strikeouts, four whiffs. He has the highest K% in the league for anybody beneath an 11% SwStr%.

Cole 25% K%, 10.8% SwStr%
Warren 23% K%, 9.7% SwStr%
It’s called strike city for McLean, who put up another pretty good start for the Mets. He’s up to 172.2 innings this year with a 3.18 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. Very good pitcher there, probably going to be outside of the top 15 for me next year, but not too far off.

So that’s why I looked at the league’s worst ERAs. There are two Rockies on that list, and it’s never good to be near a couple of Rockies SPs on a leaderboard. Lugo has one more guaranteed season on his contract, it will be interesting to see if the Royals don’t just dump him and eat the money. He certainly hasn’t helped them out this year, but it is something that he took the ball 30+ times and will end up logging 170+ innings. The Royals weren’t going anywhere anyways, and at that point sometimes you just need to get through the year.
Lugo has now had an 11 year MLB career and could get a 12th. So that’s a professional success for him. Not many dudes can do that.
Brady Singer pushed his ERA up yesterday to climb on that list I gave.

Walker Jenkins is now hitting .143/.246/.306 in 57 PAs with two homers. He has a 30% K% and a 10.5% BB% with a .181 xBA and .272 xwOBA. So the adjustment period is in full swing. He has just a .161 BABIP, but he’s not hitting the ball hard at all with a 102.8 EV90 and a poor 33% Sweet Spot% with just a 12% Air Pull%. Plenty to like in his skillset, and he’ll be a little bit of a “post hype” buy for next year.
