I guess Notre Dame ended their contract with that concessions company Aramark this week. Notre Dame said f it, we’ll do it live. But then Notre Dame like couldn’t find enough workers to replace them. So now they are contracting out this work to volunteer organizations. They get groups of people to work their concession stands and they give them a chunk of what they make for the University.
So the private Christian school my church runs is taking advantage of that. We’re using it to fundraise, since there’s obviously a good bit of money to be made from concessions at a Notre Dame home football game. So tomorrow, I will be hawkin’ hot dogs and brewskies to people at the game as we try to do anything we can to raise some money to keep the school going.
That will be quite an experience. I’m expecting it to either be extremely fun or one of the worst afternoons of my life. We’re coming in completely blind too. No training, no idea how anything works. But how hard can it be, right? I’m the only one working under the age of 50, I think, so it’s probably on me to figure out how the POS takes credit card payments and business. If nothing else, I’m sure I’ll have some good stories to tell. It’s not like college kids ever get really drunk and act really stupid at Notre Dame football games or anything like that!
Lots of nice pitching performances last night. Max Fried struck out 13, Hunter Greene went full hog CGSO. Colin Rea punched out 11. Jonah Tong got it together with five scoreless and an 8:0 K:BB.
JT Ginn struck out just three and had a mediocre WHIP, but he banged out a quality start. That’s nice, because he was one of the main streamers I was hyping up all week.
I don’t have much time for talk this morning, and I’ve been really unsure of what even to say that’s useful in these daily notes the past few weeks. But I’ve been really in the writing mood lately, so last evening while my kids were at the library I wrote some Daylen Lile action. I’m hoping I can turn that into a series about these late-year breakout players so we can know a bit about them going into next draft season.
And next draft season starts in November! I can never help but jump into one of these sicko $50 NFBC Gladiators. Those drafts start in October, I mean, it’s ridiculous stuff. I did four of them last year, drafting them all prior to December 15th.
Those are 15-team roto leagues with no roster moves whatsoever. You just draft your roster and accrue stats based on that. There are no benches; you get all of the stats. My standings right now in the four I did:
Top half of each, so that’s somewhat good. But only three spots cash ($250 for first, $125 for second, $50 for third). If I can get that 4th place team into 3rd place, we’d be at just a small loss. But basically I’m losing. I’m a big time NFBC loser, but it’s so much fun that it’s worth it.
Maybe that second-place squad can make a push over these last ten days and take it down. It’s fun to look at these teams 10 months later:
You look at that and think there’s no way a squad like that could ever compete in a 15-teamer, but the bar is pretty low when you’re drafting a team in November with no roster changes allowed whatsoever.

Maybe I can talk those guys into some sort of partnership with MLB DW… I should do that.
I need to do more partnering. More advertising. I need to SQUEEZE this audience for all it’s freakin worth!
It’s not that I haven’t tried. I have reached out to companies such as JCPenney, Pair of Thieves, and San Pellegrino asking if they would like to be the official ____ provider of MLB Data Warehouse. And can you believe that they’ve all ignored me? Can you believe that JCPenney doesn’t want to pay me to advertise for them? Some people just have no business sense, man. It’s despicable.
JCP is paying Shaquille O’Neal to advertise for them. That guy probably costs a couple milly! I’m over here willing to make JCPenney-related jokes on the reg for like $5,000 a year.
I did a Google Trends comp between me and Shaq. And sure, people know about Shaq and statistically no people know about me. But look, sometimes Shaq and me are both, at the same time, not being talked about at all.
So I hope that Mr. JC Penney is reading this and will reconsider my offer.
