You can now get to this Substack by hitting mlbdatawarehouse.com. I’m finally official.
I’ve had thoughts of making some merch. T-shirts and hats and stuff, but then I’m like okay say I’m walking around town with an MLB DW shirt on that shows mlbdatawarehouse.com on the back. How many people could I possibly walk by that would be at all interested in fantasy baseball stuff? I’ve only ever met like two people in real life who have an interest in this stuff. But maybe I’ll do it someday just for fun. Need to establish some more consistent logos and branding and stuff.
It’s the last day of the season. I was looking at some stuff last night and I kinda feel like I did a pretty bad job in this second half. The last few months, I haven’t done much here besides the daily notes and sporadic slate previews. I’ve been focused a lot on building out tools and reports and stuff rather than writing.
That was probably a mistake. It’s a long season to grind through, but next year I have to be better at getting the scheduled content out. And I probably do need to find some reliable writers. To do that, I’ll have to shell out some more serious cash to them, but it would be worth it.
A good fantasy baseball publication has daily DFS stuff, in-depth waiver/FAAB articles, and more player examinations during the season. I think I do a fine job looking at potential breakout players in the daily notes, but I don’t think that’s enough.
So I’m already ready to start next year! But first, we have to determine these playoff teams, go through an exciting month of postseason baseball, and then get all of the offseason content on the screen.
I will probably start writing the 2026 Rockies Preview next week. I’m not even kidding about that. I write these full-out team previews for every team by myself. That takes 3-5 hours per team. It takes a long time. But I really enjoy writing those.
And then February-March is a blitzkrieg of draft prep content. There’s a lot to do!
The Reds and Mets both won, so that gives the Reds something like a 75% chance to go to LA to face the Dodgers in the Wild Card round.
It’s one of those matrices with the four possible outcomes. There are four possible outcomes:
→ CIN WINS, NYM WINS
→ CIN LOSES, NYM LOSES
→ CIN WINS, NYM LOSES
→ CIN LOSES, NYM WINS
And only that fourth one puts the Mets in.
Other than that, the rest of the playoffs are decided. Or at least the teams are going. There are some seedings that could be moved around. But the Astros are out, and the Tigers and Guardians are in. First playoffs without Houston since 2016!
We only know about the Padres going to Wrigley for that series, and the Reds or Mets going to LA for that brutal spot against a healthy and red hot Dodgers club.
The Blue Jays and Yankees will finish with the two best records in the AL, but one of them will have to play a three-game WC series because they will not have won the division.
Justin Verlander finished the year extremely well and ended up posting a competitive 3.91 ERA on the year. But he went for a 2.99 ERA in his final 15 starts. You know that guy is coming back next year.
We were once excited about Mick Abel this year. He went to the Twins in the Jhoan Duran trade and ripped off six great innings yesterday to conclude his season. His time with Minnesota:
Really bad overall. But he’ll get the chance to compete for a spot in the Minnesota rotation next year.
Trey Yesavage threw five innings yesterday in a game that Toronto was trying to win for division purposes. So he won’t appear in the Wild Card series if they have to play it. And they’ll roll out Kevin Gausman today, so they’ll be in pretty rough shape for starters in that quick three-game series. Not great, but if they win today, they’ll get the bye and be fine. Yesavage’s three MLB starts:
A bit WILD, but overall an encouraging start with the 26% K%. He’ll be fun to actually watch in the playoffs if we get there. I don’t think I’ve ever seen video of the guy throwing a baseball!
I could go on, but we’ll get to all of these guys in depth this winter. So let’s enjoy our last Sunday of regular season ball, try to maximize our enjoyment of the postseason, and then try to do it all better next year.
I really, really appreciate everybody who reads these regularly. It’s a blessing. And I hope you all come with me into the future. Things are going to be a bit different and a lot better next year as I invest more and more into this publication.
