We are officially done with three weeks of games, which means the figures in these notes are going to change slightly. Below you see a lot of “Last 3 Weeks” leaders. Up until now, that was just the full season. So starting tomorrow, the full season won’t be encompassed by the last 21 days.

I say that just for you to keep it in mind, but also as a way to ask for feedback. Would you rather see the last three weeks rather than full-season data? Or would you like me to put in both? These notes are already pretty darn long, and it’s pretty easy to look up full-season stats elsewhere (especially on my MLB Tableau Dashboard!), so I think the best way to go is to restrict it to the three weeks numbers like we’re doing now, but please let me know if you disagree. Feel free to also request anything other additions you can think of, pretty much anything you can imagine is possible with Baseball Savant and Python.

Raimel freaking Tapia double-barreled yesterday, which is weird. It looks like he’s someone who changed his approach in 2022. So far he is:

  • Swinging more (51% → 60%)

  • Whiffing more (15% → 25%)

  • Barreling more (2% → 10%)

  • Going 95+ exit velo more (32% → 44%)

  • Hitting more fly balls (12% → 24%)

  • Pulling the ball more (27% → 38%)

So far, it’s not working out with a .220/.217/.305 slash line, and I’m not sure this approach really makes sense for him, but it’s different - and that’s what these notes are all about - identifying changes before anyone else.

You heard it here first: Raimel Tapia still sucks, but now he sucks… differently.

The pitcher of the day was… Ross Stripling? So all kinds of stuff went wonky with the Blue Jays yesterday. Stripling went for a crazy 20.2% SwStr% and a 36.9% CSW%. For the year now he’s at:

  • 31% CSW%

  • 13.4% SwStr%

  • 19.4% K%

  • 6.5% BB%

  • 52.2% GB%

  • 0 Homers Allowed

Good signs from a guy who used to be a pretty darn good pitcher for the Dodgers, maybe Stripling has a little bit of the mojo back.
