Introduction / Explanation For New Readers

There were no classified documents to be found in Los Angeles last night, as the Angels played the Athletics last night and gave Ohtani a day off. This resulted in just about the worst collection of Major League hitters you’ll ever find. The Angels scored a run in the top of the first and the game finished 1-0 in their favor. Cole Irvin and Jose Suarez both pitched well, although maybe that’s not even true - they just put up good stats - but it would have been tough not to against who they were facing. I mean holy f-word. Since July 1st, the Angels have a .598 OPS and the Athletics have a .666 OPS. Those numbers are second and seventh-worst in the league, which is actually surprising. Here are the bottom 10 teams since July 1.

  1. MIA .588

  2. LAA .598

  3. DET .616

  4. PIT .620

  5. WSH .646

  6. CHC .652

  7. OAK .666

  8. CIN .669

  9. BOS .670

  10. SF .678

Since we only had seven games last night I can show you the full SP stats, ordered by CSW%:

Logan Gilbert got thrashed and continues to struggle. Here are some numbers on him:

Season : 26.4% CSW%, 11.9% SwStr%, 22.2% K%, 6.4% BB%, 7.5% Brl%
April : 25.7% CSW%, 11.5% SwStr%, 25.9% K%, 4.7% BB%, 1.7% Brl%
May : 27.6% CSW%, 12.7% SwStr%, 25.3% K%, 8.7% BB%, 6.2% Brl%
June : 26.4% CSW%, 12.2% SwStr%, 21.8% K%, 4.8% BB%, 9.3% Brl%
Jul-Aug: 25.8% CSW%, 11.2% SwStr%, 17.9% K%, 6.5% BB%, 9.5% Brl%

Zac Gallen was awesome, as he should have been, against the Pirates - it’s been a funky year for him and his next start is in Coors - but at least we got one gem out of him here.

Matt Chapman hit another dinger last night. Since June 1st, his .925 ops is 13th-best in baseball. He’s hitting .276/.348/.577 with 16 homers, a 17.9% Brl%, and a .365 xwOBA in that time. He does have a bad 29% K% but everything else has been making up for that. Only six hitters have hit more homers than him (Judge, Schwarber, Riley, Alvarez, Hoskins, Alonso) over this sample, so if you bought low on Chapman when I told you to, your offensive stats have really experienced some inflation.

My guy JC on Twitter has been betting strikeout props using my projections, and he’s been hugely profitable - so he says! Here’s what he DM’d me this morning:

So that means when my projection is different than the betting prop by 1.25 or more strikeouts, that bet has been a winner 69 times and a loser 48 times. That’s a 64% win percentage. I suppose that doesn’t necessarily mean profit given the juiced lines and the rake, but at the very least you’d be having some fun without losing money. Check out the K Prop sheet in the premium links below if you haven’t yet, here’s a sneak preview:

Lots of crazy shit happening in the world right now, eh? I don’t know how much the average person pays attention to politics and whatnot, but I pay a good amount of attention and have to say - it’s quite entertaining.

It can be really maddening at times too, I guess, but that doesn’t really happen to me because I for some reason have this disposition where nothing really bothers me. If you can get yourself to the point where you can be into politics without letting it affect your life or your mood, it’s quite a fun little “hobby” to follow. The way they run stuff, the things they prioritize, the arguments they make - they’re all just so comical, I mean there are so many things I could go on about but I won’t. I think the bigger problem is that the population lets them get away with it. Politicians think people like us are really, really dumb - and we’ve given them little reason to change their minds.

I’ve read plenty of books about the history of US politics and doing that kind of calms you down too. We have been fighting, panicking, and losing our minds about the same stuff for hundreds of years now, and look - everything is still okay. It’s better than okay, life is amazing.

Alrighty, you’ve had enough of that, here’s the report:
