TURBO SLATE
There is a six-game turbo slate tonight and a nine-game main slate. So you can play both of those. I like a six-game turbo slate. So let’s go over the highlights of that one.
Game Data
Braves vs. Jake Irvin - 6.3 implied runs
That total is wild to me. It’s in DC where runs have been plentiful, but the 10 O/U with 63% of it going to the Braves seems heavy to this guy! But they’re clearly the best offense to go to.
Padres vs. Nick Lodolo - 5.44 implied runs
Lodolo has been awful, the Padres get a huge park boost, and they’re a pretty hot offense right now with Tatis and Merrill being among the best hitters in the league the last couple of months.
Guardians vs. Arrighetti - 5.09 implied runs
Arrighetti will go 3-4 innings here and then they’ll have to deal with a decent Blue Jays bulllpen. But the Guards will take some walks and do their thing here, they’re very playable.
Mets vs. Peralta - 3.47 implied runs
This is a low implication, but they’re the top projected offense in my model with 73.3 projected fantasy points. Peralta has been hit around with ease this year, so I like this spot for the Mets as a low-owned stack.
Pitchers
Paul Skenes $9,500 vs. SF
Skenes at home in a great matchup coming off of a very good start. It still doesn’t feel safe, but the cash duo is very clar if you’re playing that.
Gavin Williams $10,000 vs. TOR
Williams and Skenes are the two obvious plays. But this isn’t a very good matchup for Williams since the Blue Jays strike out so little. The good news is that they aren’t equipped to take advantage of the one weakness he has - giving up homers.
I don’t think you overthink it in single entry, just play Skenes and Williams. There are very few other pitchers that can threaten them tonight.
The tourney options to try:
Sean Manaea $7,800 vs. TB
The Rays haven’t been a super tough matchup this summer, but they don’t do a lot of striking out, and Manaea is anything but safe. But he is throwing a bunch of pitches and has had plenty of useful starts this summer at this price.
Bryan Woo $8,500 vs. BOS
This one’s in Boston, and Woo has been awful away from home. But he’s still a good pitcher and can definitely splash for a big start a good percentage of the time. Definitely a tourney pool guy if you’re playing multiple lineups.
Logan Webb $8,700 vs. PIT
The Pirates had an awful offensive August, and they’re a team to target. Webb hasn’t been good, but he’s relatively safe here for double-digit points on a bad pitching slate.
Randy Vasquez $6,500 vs. CIN
Good matchup for Vasquez. Scary in Cincy, but Randy has been doing pretty well lately. Since July 30th:
→ 2.20 ERA, 0.67 WHIP, 11% K%, 4% BB%
That’s obviously extremely lucky. Somehow just 17 hits allowed with only 13 strikeouts. Reasonable punt though, he could get through five innings with 3-4 strikeouts and win the decision.
Freddy Peralta $7,100 vs. NYM
I don’t like the pitcher, I don’t love the matchup, but at least he’s priced right.
Chalk Take
Play Williams, play Skenes, stack some Braves and Padres.
Contrarian Take
Probably still playing Williams and Skenes. I think you can get some Mets and Reds at lower ownership. And I like the Guardians as well if you want to avoid the chalk stacks (Atlanta and San Diego).
