We had a pretty nice afternoon slate but my dentist appointment made it so I couldn’t write it up. I played a lot of Andrew Painter with Padres, Braves, and Rangers stacks. Hopefully something good comes out of that.
The night slate is a six-gamer. No Coors, no Sacramento, no Cincinnati.
Spread out ownership from what we can tell. No offense really stands out.
Let’s pick out some of our favorite stacks.
Dodgers vs. Andre Pallante
5.70 implied, +0.90
Pallante’s a weird pitcher.
Tons of balls in play with that 17% and 7% BB%, but they’re almost never going out of the ballpark with a 55% GB%, 18% FB%, 5.2% Brl%, and 56.4 PA/HR.
He has a 3.64 ERA. He has more outings with 0 or 1 ER given up than outings with 4+ ER. So he’s not really a great dude to stack against with an expensive lineup. But there is a floor there. The Dodgers will almost surely get 5+ hits off of him, and if they’re strung together, you have something.
Astros vs. Davis Martin
4.99 implied, +0.63
Here’s one to attack! Martin’s coming back from IL, and he was pitching terribly before that injury. Since June has has a 7.06 ERA, 1.73 WHIP, 1.4 HR/9. So it’s all systems go for the Astros.
Brewers vs. David Peterson
5.25 implied, +0.35
I do not like this one. Peterson has a near 50% GB% with the Cubs. He’s good at preventing homers. I suppose that’s not as important for a matchup with the Brewers cause they don’t hit many homers. He’s a pitch-to-contact lefty. It’s a situation similar to Dodgers vs. Pallante. We have pretty pricey bats against a pitcher that they’re unlikely to hit multiple homers off of. So I’m not in love with it, but the Brewers righties are fine lineup fillers.
Royals vs. Eury Perez
4.75 implied, +0.45
Really surprised to see +0.45 against Eury here. This stack should not be popular since Perez is a very good pitcher. It’s about the 90+ degree temperatures with some winds blowing out. Tough place to pitch here again, but I’d still rather not pick on Eury Perez and his 2.38 ERA over the last 68 innings.
Marlins vs. Noah Cameron
4.65 implied, +0.33
Another pretty good pitcher here. He has a 2.74 ERA and 0.96 WHIP over the last nine starts. But he doesn’t have a great ground ball rate (40%) to combat the humidity and the winds. The Marlins look really bad against lefties right now, though.
Soooo I don’t think I’m stacking these in squads in these matchup just because it’s hot and they might get a little help from the wind.
Tigers vs. Twins
The implied total don’t stand out. Both pitchers can hold their own. Drew Anderson has been a lot better than I thought. I was surprised to see these numbers:
He just got into the rotation on August 5th. Since then:
The K% is down as you would have predicted, and the command hasn’t been good. It’s a lot easier to put up good numbers in the bullpen than in the rotation, and from what we’ve seen, he’s not going to be a good starter. So I could get behind stacking some Twins again.
Kremer is basically a league-average starter. And the Tigers aren’t a lineup I like very much right now, although Riley Greene is back.
Okay, to my stack list.
Astros vs. Davis Martin
Twins vs. Drew Anderson
Brewers vs. David Peterson
Dodgers vs. Andre Pallante
Royals vs. Eury Perez
Pitchers
Lots of JUICE tonight! Great night for pitching.
