MLB DW Slate Preview - May 27
My rundown of today's MLB slate, including full projections and analysis for each game
It’s another four-article day from your boy. And I just ate a huge cookie from Subway. Which I always regret like 90 seconds after it’s over. I have to stop doing this stuff to myself. I murdered this probably 300-400 calorie brownie on Sunday after church and seriously felt it in my gut for 3-4 hours. I had to run three miles and do a bunch of jump rope to get rid of it. I have one of those weighted jump ropes that really work your arms while you jump - pretty good. But it freaking kills you when you miss it and it whips your arm or back or whatever.
And here I am, right back to the well, eating junk. I did run 3.5 miles already today, so I’ll probably survive it. I just wish I could have the good without the bad. But who can? Right?
DFS Slate Preview
Pitchers
Carlos Rodon ($10,500) vs. Angels
I like Rodon tonight. How couldn’t you? He’s a good strikeout pitcher, he’s been in fine form of late, and this is a great matchup against the Angels, at least for strikeout purposes. But $10,500 for the Rodoninator does make me nervous.
But to reiterate, he has been on a very nice run of late. He’s been over 20 (okay, 19.7) DraftKings points in seven straight.
But seasoned DFS players know about the guy. He’s not usually this consistent.
But I’ve gotta stop it there. I can’t get into this game of looking at a line and trying to guess the next point. Let’s lean on the projections here. Rodon leads the slate in projection (24.2 points, 1.8 above Joe Ryan, who is second), and he’s the #4 value on the board
Tonights Projection-Based Values
Zack Kelly ($4,000): 3.4
Cade Horton ($8,000): 2.7
Aaron Civale ($6,700): 2.4
Carlos Rodon ($10,500): 2.3
Joe Ryan ($9,700): 2.2
Value isn’t the best way to pick players with. Usually, it’s not really bad pitchers at really low prices getting to the top. You don’t really want 11-12 points from $4K Zack Kelly. Even if that were to happen, it’s not going to help your lineup wind up at the top of the leaderboard. You need raw points, and those value pitchers don’t often give you raw points.
So I’d say it’s pretty clear that Rodon is the top play tonight.
