NFBC Targets: ADP 500-550
Part three of finding super late round targets for DC drafts

Hitters
Christopher Morel, Miami Marlins
The league takes a little while longer to completely give up a player when they have physical skills like Morel. Granted, it’s been 1,770 MLB plate appearances for the guy now, and he’s sitting here with a .714 career OPS (.634 in 2024, .684 in 2025), so it’s getting pretty tough to believe that he’ll figure it out.
But those skills though! He has a ton of bat speed (95th percentile) and well-above-average running ability.
Unfortunately for Morel, there’s more to baseball than bat speed. But regardless, it’s gotten him another try, this time in Miami. The Marlins have stated they’ll give him a try at first base after signing him to a one year deal.
We’re past pick 500. If we can find 20 bombs, we’re digging up gold at this point in the draft. And for all his struggles, he’s just three years removed from a 26-homer season where he hit .245 and stole six bases.
Colby Thomas, Athletics
This is one of our post-hype prospect buys. Colby remains a top 100 prospect here at MLB DW, he lands at #91.
What I like most is how cheap he is after falling flat in the Majors last season:
→ 132 PA, .225/.267/.417, 37% K%, 5.3% BB%
One of the big edges in fantasy is this situation exactly. Forgive those first 100 (or so) PAs. There’s a very normal 75-150 PA adjustment period when you first get to the Majors. You’ll typically see a lot of improvement after that sort of window.
And that’s exactly where we’re at with Thomas. He got valuable experience in the Majors last year, and it was enough to throw people off the scent for 2026. I’m not sure he makes the big league club out of camp, but the A’s aren’t very strong in the outfield, so he’s got a shot if he can make some noise in camp. Left-handed power in this Sacramento ballpark is very enticing. I’ll be grabbing some Thomas shares.
Paul Goldschmidt, Free Agent
Maybe he’s washed (.403 SLG, 10 HR in 145 games with the Yankees last year), but getting Goldy at 500+ feels like something we should be happy to do.
There’s always a buying opportunity on free agents before they sign. The uncertainty of not being on a team makes people a bit more hesitant. The guy hit .274 last season with a .328 OBP, and he provides veteran leadership and probably sells a few tickets, so he’s going to latch on somewhere.
