At the most basic level, one of the best things you can do in the MLB is not get carried away with a bad start or two. Avoiding overreacting to blowout starts is key, and after getting his butt kicked by the Astros last outing I think Sean Burke is in a prime bounceback spot for Game 1 of today's doubleheader. After putting together three quality starts against the Tigers, Orioles, and Rangers where he went 6+ IP and 89+ pitches in all three starts, I thought this number would be a point higher.
The Cardinals offense is somewhat patient, but they are struggling against RHP ranking 30th in wRC+ L30. You always want to manage your bullpen responsibly during these doubleheaders, which could encourage him being sent out for another inning if it’s a close/borderline decision. Burke has been solid, if he can not get caught up in the walks (which he’s done well recently) then he should be able to get through 6 IP tonight.
