SPs to Watch: April 2-6
A look ahead to the next four days of probable starters. We’re looking for streamers, but more so, we’re looking for guys who could turn into top 50 SPs for our fantasy teams this year and make a huge difference in the standings.
Thursday, April 2
It’s a super light slate of baseball on Thursday as most of the league is traveling. So there’s not much to do in terms of SP streaming. The one guy you could consider giving some attention to is Reynaldo Lopez against the Diamondbacks. But I don’t think I would do it. His Stuff+ grade in that first start was poor at 98.3, and the results were discouraging as well with a 39% Strike%. That’s a very bad number. He threw as many balls as strikes. So I’d let him go. I don’t think there’s much chance that Lopez ends up being a “must roster” guy this year, and those are the types we’re fishing for in this first month of play.
Friday, April 3
I’m ordering these in terms of priority. We’re looking at the specific matchup, for sure, but definitely looking more for guys we think could have staying power in your fantasy lineup.
Will Warren (57% Owned) vs. MIA: Don’t forget about the trouble that Warren can get himself into against left-handed bats. He’s given up a .360 xwOBA with an 8% K-BB% against them dating back to last year. But with Kyle Stowers on the shelf, the Marlins are pretty right-handed, and pretty beatable. I think it could be a very nice start for Warren. But I’m not viewing him as a long-term guy at this point.
Reid Detmers (32%) vs. SEA: This will be an interesting one. Detmers exceeded expectations in his first start with 16 whiffs, nine strikeouts, and no walks. The Stuff+ popped off at 104.4, including 105 on the fastball. Maybe he can hang as a starter after all! Probably not, but maybe!
