SPs to Watch: March 26-29
Looking for SP targets over the weekend
The season is getting going, and I’m in a mad scramble to get everything up and running. It’s a mad dash to get things working at the beginning of the year, so I appreciate the patience with all of the reports and the pages on the app and the Tableaus and stuff. Hopefully, we’re fully rolling and up to speed by Monday/Tuesday.
My priority is getting the daily projections, DFS optimizer, and betting stuff running for Opening Day. But things will slowly come online and get enhanced, and I’ll be adding new stuff throughout the year.
I feel like I haven’t written a baseball article in ages! In reality, it’s been a couple of days. I went back to Pittsburgh for the draft with my buddies, and coincidentally, there was a birthday party for my niece on Sunday. And the party favor we all got was a stomach bug. So I was really testing the plumbing at my house last night and was unable to do much baseball stuff.
But I do have one thing ready to go for the season! It’s the SP PLANNER on the web app! All paid subscribers will see it (there are plenty of pages that will be hidden for PRO members only). It gives you a look at the next 10-12 days of probable pitchers and works in a way that’s very helpful for fantasy leagues. You can see the toughest and softest upcoming schedules there, as well as search for a pitcher or an opponent, and see the upcoming schedule.
I use it quite a bit. Paid subs can access that app through the link and password in the Resource Glossary.
So let’s get to work! Some first weekend starters that might be available. We’ll be focusing less on streamers and more on guys you might actually end up keeping for a while.
My ownerships are currently coming from Yahoo and ESPN. And that’s not a great situation because those sites have so, so many dead leagues. But the NFBC OC I’m in will not let me extract the whole player list, only the data on the guys that are available in my particular leagues. So, if anybody knows of a good spot where I can get all player ownership on NFBC, let me know. It would be a lot more useful to use that ADP. That said, ESPN and Yahoo won’t be that bad until a few months into the season, when all those free leagues are completely forgotten about.
Early Season Soft Schedules
Some guys who might be available for you and start their seasons with cake schedules:
Cody Ponce: vs. COL, at CWS
Chad Patrick: vs. CWS, at KC
Those are the two I’d be most interested in, because I think both guys could turn into viable 12-team targets. The upside seems particularly nice with Ponce. Maybe he really did fully re-invent himself in the KBO. It worked in spring, and it’s worth a shot to begin the year, especially with this first start lining up against the Rockies.
As for Patrick, we’ll see. I don’t think his upside is great because of a lack of a true breaking ball. But I think he could be pretty solid. And I’d be interested in the start against the White Sox. But if he looks bad, I wouldn’t be feeling good about the Royals spot - that’s a potentially good lineup (even though the data points toward it being a good matchup for right now).
Chris Bassitt: vs. TEX, at PIT
The guy just won’t go away! Now he’s on the Orioles and opening the season up with two decent matchups. I don’t think either offense is a pushover, but they’re probably both bottom-half lineups. And Bassitt isn’t going to be babied with the pitch counts.
