Starts & Sits- June 15-17
A look ahead for planning your starts & sits
We’re getting our guy Hunter Marvel back in the fold. The plan is for him to write this article every Sunday and Wednesday. But Jon is here opening it up to give a little bit of a template.
We’ll try to keep these short and sweet, but I think it will be pretty helpful in managing these fantasy rosters daily for the rest of the season.
Monday, June 15th
In the future, these won’t cover the current day, since it’s often too late to make moves. But I didn’t have time to get this out until Monday, so I’m including it here.
AUTO STARTS
Zack Wheeler vs. MIA
Chase Burns vs. NYM
Ew is that it?
NOT SO AUTO BUT STILL AUTO
Maybe Hunter can come up with a better name for these sections. I know that Pitcherlist does this daily, so I’m basically just ripping them off. But it’s a good idea, and good ideas get copied.
Shota Imanaga vs. COL: It’s in Wrigley, so that helps a lot - and Imanaga has done enough to still deserve an auto-start mentality, especially after his bounce back last week in Coors.
DO IT BUT DON’T FEEL COMFORTABLE
Jared Jones vs. ATH: I’m pretty scared of it. Jones has been in the mid-70s pitch counts, and he’s going to have a problem with the long ball. He’s just been leaving four-seamers right there for dudes to take to pound time. I have a feeling that happens tonight against Nick Kurtz, but he’s been getting a bunch of whiffs and throwing strikes so far, so I think you go for it if you have the guy.
MacKenzie Gore vs. MIN: I was highly exposed to MacKenzie Gore this year. And you shouldn’t highly expose yourself to anybody you’re not married to. And I’ve paid dearly for it. But we’re not done with Gore yet. He has a 2.90 ERA with just one homer allowed in his last six starts, and he’s gotten a bunch of whiffs lately.
JT Ginn vs. PIT: The data says that this is a good matchup for Ginn, even at home. And he hasn’t had much trouble in Sacramento.
Dustin May vs. SD: Good matchup, great form for May who have figured out how to use that increase velo for good.
Walbert Urena vs. ARI
DESPERATION OPTIONS
Eric Lauer vs. TB: Yandy is going to feast on the guy, unless he doesn’t. But Lauer has been good for the Dodgers so far.
Ryne Nelson vs. LAA: He doesn’t deserve this treatment with his 10.7% K-BB%, but I’m firing him up against the Angels.
Kai-Wei Teng vs. DET: Blah. The non-fastball approach hasn’t been working, and that kind of thing usually doesn’t last for long. But he’s not a total loser.
Troy Melton vs. HOU: I’d have tossed him aside if not for the ten strikeouts in the last two outings. He has a pathetic 14% K% on the year, but at least it’s come up a little bit lately. I think he’s probably bad, but there’s only one good lefty in the Astros lineup, so this could go decently well for Melton.
DON’T DO IT
Nick Martinez vs. LAD
Lucas Giolito vs. STL
Andrew Alvarez vs. KC
Ryan Gusto vs. PHI
Mike Paredes vs. TEX
Tobias Myers vs. CIN
Michael Lorenzen vs. CHC
Mitch Spence vs. WSH
