LEGEND

  • Anchor Arms - General consensus is they are going to dominate the matchup.

  • Send it Guys - Expect a solid performance. Thanks to either a favorable matchup or just a hot hand.

  • Danger Zone - Could be an awesome start with a solid amount of upside, but it’s not a comfortable matchup.

  • Desperation Station - A super unfavorable matchup, but you are desperate for points, so you start them anyway.

  • Hard Pass - Dudes I don’t have any interest in starting.

DISCLAIMER - Starters are subject to change; we use the best information available to project who will be starting on a given day.

The old saying goes, time flies when you’re having fun. I can attest to that; I’ve had a lot of fun doing these articles. So much so I can’t believe we have our first NFL game tonight! What kind of timeline are we on right now? It feels like just last week was the All-Star break.

I have a unique fandom combination. My Uncle was a huge Pittsburgh fan, he had a lot of influence on myself so naturally I became a Penguins and Steelers fan just like him. He didn’t care for baseball too much. Once I was old enough to realize how awesome baseball was, I fell in love with the 2011 Orioles team. It also helped that they were the closest team to us, so I could watch every game. This was before MLB.tv and all that jazz. So yes, I have a weird Pittsburgh/Baltimore fandom. Which is weird; I’ve met several people with the same situation.

Anyways, I had to plant my flag in Steelers Nation before the season started. Let’s get to the starting pitchers for the weekend! #HereWeGo.

Thursday September 10th

ANCHOR ARMS

  • Zack Wheeler vs Houston

  • Logan Gilbert vs Texas

  • Jacob DeGrom @ Seattle

Nice little duel in Seattle tomorrow late afternoon.

SEND IT GUYS

  • Max Fried vs Colorado - He’s been fine coming back from injuries. Worth starting, but it probably won’t be over five innings. The Yankees are capping his pitches at 80-85 pitches.

DANGER ZONE

  • Jared Jones @ CWS - Nice streaming spot if he’s available for some reason. Nine K’s last time out.

  • Cristian Javier @ Philadelphia - A good spot if you need strikeouts. Risky spot with the Phils offense, but he won’t go three trips around the lineup. He’s been capped around 80-90 pitches.

DESPERATION STATION

  • Nick Martinez @ Atlanta - He never grades out that well. If you need WHIP help, you risk starting him. He doesn’t strike out many.

  • Luis Castillo vs Pittsburgh - He’s not moving the needle for me. The Strike% and Ball% are much worse in August and September. The Pirates got back Oneil Cruz and Konnor Griffin as well. I’m a full fade on Luis.

    Since July 1st

HARD PASS

  • Martin Perez vs Tampa Bay - Junior Caminero tater feels like a sure thing.

  • Ryan Feltner @ NYY
