Good morning! Here are today’s options for my daily sharp and fish picks. If you’re new here, check out the first post where I explained what I’m after.
SHARP: EZEQUIEL TOVAR
There’s nothing exciting about Tovar. You aren’t going to be sitting there looking at your trophy case in October with a Rockies jersey on, knowing that Tovar was the reason you took home a championship.
But he is really underappreciated. The ATC auction values have him as SS14, and he’s SS18 by ADP. You don’t find too many gaps like that in the NFBC ADP data. So even the sharp drafters aren’t respecting the guy like they should be!
Imagine what your home league bro’s will do when they see Tovar coming off of a nine-homer, five-steal season on one of the worst MLB teams we’ve ever seen assembled. Take the value, say thank you.
FISH: DAULTON VARSHO
Varsho didn’t play a ton last year, but he made some noise when he was in there. He hit 20 bombs in 71 games for a 13.6 PA/HR rate. One of the best you’ll ever see.
We will for sure see major regression on that. But that power burst has his ADP in the top 200. And one thing you might not realize is that Varsho is one of the worst batting average hitters in the league. His .217 xBA since 2021 is 23rd-worst in the Majors. Pretty much everybody above him on that list is out of the league.
If he doesn’t hit 30 bombs, he’s going to hurt your fantasy team, because the batting average is so, so hard to come back from.
