Round four looks like this:
Sharp: Wyatt Langford
You’re going to see this dude as a round one fantasy pick in the near future, I swear it. And if I’m wrong, you’ll have forgotten I ever said this by the time I’ll have been proven wrong.
Steamer is a dumb projection system; let’s just get that out of the way. But they get that first-mover boost. Those projections are always available. And that matters. The best ability is the best availability. But at the end of the day, they suck.
Everybody other than Steamer has Langford for 45 HR+SB, and that’s a fantastic start. My model is very hot on the guy, giving him 29 bombs, 18 steals, and a .260 batting average. And I think he could smoke even that projection. He’s so good, and still so young. There’s a 30-30-.270 season coming at some point.
Fish: Rafael Devers
The floor is great. Devers can play some ball. But he’s a first baseman now, and this will be his first full season as a Giant, and it’s just an awful park for hitting. There have been so few fantasy baseball studs coming out of San Francisco. I mean, go ahead - try to think of a few! Every “last Giant to do ___” leaderboard I pulled up had Barry Bonds in the top three results. It’s just tough to put up a big offensive season there.
And even at his best, Devers was an early-second-round dude. He doesn’t steal bases, and the batting average has never been stellar. If he’s capped at 25-30 homers, which I think he is, what more do you have to fall back on?
It’s a bad pick this year, and I think you’ll see his ADP drop a couple of rounds for next season.
