Waiver Wire Targets: Week 9
Waiver wire quick hits
No podcast this week as the other John is traveling. And I’ll be on vacation for a couple of weeks soon, so the podcasts might be few and far between for a bit.
Here’s what we’ve got.
Shallow League Pitcher Targets
Connor Prielipp (MIN) - He keeps pitching well. The K-BB% is up to 19.6%. And yet he’s 39% owned on CBS. Seems way wrong!
Tatsuya Imai (HOU) - He started throwing strikes last time! He had 19 whiffs and a 5:0 K:BB with a 28.4% Ball%. That was by far the best work of his season, and it might be an early sign that he’s starting to pitch like the Astros thought he could when they signed him.
Griffin Jax (TB)- Five pretty strong innings against the Orioles this week with 11 whiffs and a nice 17.7% SwStr%. I’ve been banging the drum on him as a reliever that I can believe can become a starter. He has a deep pitch mix and good fastball velocity. The big problem is the pitch counts. He hasn’t crossed 70 yet, and I guess it’s hard to know if he will ever get across 80+ per outing. They might just want him as a 4-5 inning opener.
