Paul Skenes $8,300 vs. Mexico
The USA line is surprisingly tight. Team Mexico has plenty of Major Leaguers, as we’ll see in the lineup.
Skenes pitch counts this spring:
Feb 25: 53
Mar 3: 40
There is a 65 pitch max pitch count in this round. Skenes won’t come out for another inning if he’s over 50 pitches. But he’ll for sure throw more than 40.
Playing Skubal on Saturday did not work out, but Skenes is obviously making the list of plays here.
Yoendrys Gomez $7,000 vs. Nicaragua
This is a Major Leagaue player. He pitched for three different MLB clubs last year and finished the year in the White Sox rotation. This spring with the Rays:
Feb 22: 29 pitches
Feb 25: 22
Mar 1: 18
Mar 5: 34
He did not get a strike out in his first three outings, but faanned four Orioles on 34 pitches in the final outing. He had a 21% K% in the Majors last year. He draws the best matchup of the bunch against Nicaragua and their 2.5-run implication.
Great spot to use Yoendrys.
Elmer Rodriguez $6,500 vs. Cuba
This is a Yankees prospect who has some sneaky potential in the Majors in 2026. He reached AAA last year, so he’s knocking on the door. Dude posted a 29% K% with a 9.4% BB% in A-AAA ball last year in over 150 innings.
Team Cuba doesn’t have much. There’s Yoan Moncada and a couple others that have had some big league time, but it’s not a scary lineup even in the context of the WBC. Elmer is probably the best SP play on the board tonight.
