Pitchers - Shallow Leagues

Zebby Matthews (12%), David Festa (4%), Minnesota Twins

Both of these guys should be owned while they’re in the Major Leagues. Festa is the one who got the call for the Friday start to help fill in for missing Lopez, but that was mostly because it was his scheduled day to pitch.

Matthews will be pitching against Sunday or Monday somewhere. Will it be in the Majors? Maybe not. I don’t know how the Twins are going to handle this Pablo Lopez IL situation. So keep your eye on the news and grab whoever is in the rotation currently. Or just grab them both. It’s only a matter of time before they’re both in there. They are both much better than Paddack and Woods Richardson.

FAAB Recommendation: It’s tough to break the bank for either guy right now since we don’t know who will be in the rotation. But I’d be looking to get either guy at the discount now and just hoping for the best.

Tylor Megill, New York Mets (58%)

He currently sports a 0.63 ERA in 14.1 innings with a 27% K%. That’s the good news. The bad news is a 11% BB% and a bad 38.6% Ball%. He’s inefficient, and I don’t think you’ll get too many 6+ innings starts from him. But I do feel good about the strikeouts, and he should get a good amount of run supporte behind him. That’s enough in plenty of league types.

FAAB Recommendation: He’s not going to be a league-winner for you, but he’s one of the best widely-available strikeout pitchers out there.

Jose Soriano, Los Angeles Angels (37%)

He continues to get it done. The lack of strikeouts does make you nervous about the WHIP, but we’ve known this is who Soriano is. The WHIP probably won’t be fantastic, but I feel pretty good about his shot at giving you a really nice season-long ERA. And he gets a big boost in quality starts leagues since he gets so deep into games.

FAAB Recommendation: A lot of it is league dependent. He’s not as good in roto leagues where the WHIP and strikeout rate could be issues, but all-in-all I think he should be owned in most leagues.
