2027 fantasy baseball news from around the league, a Grok Bot integration

Notes — Nov. 7–8 (since the Nov. 7 morning digest)

1. Nick Pivetta – Free agent

The Braves have shown interest in Pivetta in the past, but Gabriel Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes there are "currently concerns about his elbow." Pivetta made only eight starts for San Diego in 2026 after a flexor strain cost him almost five months, and the Padres declined his 2027 option.

2. Casey Mize – Free agent

Burns reports Atlanta is wary of Mize's injury history, which is part of why its deadline interest in him was "overstated." Mize went on the injured list three times in 2026 (two adductor injuries and a late-September ankle sprain), and his ERA rose from 2.70 with Detroit to 7.46 after the trade to San Diego.

3. Jyun-Yue Tseng – Fubon Guardians (CPBL)

Fubon is posting the 25-year-old right-hander, and his MLB negotiating window opens Nov. 8 at 8:00 a.m. ET (Joel Sherman; Jon Heyman). He has pitched only in relief in the CPBL, with a 2.36 ERA, 91 saves and a 12.8 K/9 in 287 appearances. His fastball has touched 99 mph but has sat closer to the mid-90s since a 2024 shoulder injury.

4. Trevor Megill – Brewers

Adam McCalvy writes that Megill and Andrew Vaughn are in their final arbitration year, so Milwaukee has to choose between keeping them through 2027 and trading them. If Megill draws trade interest, McCalvy names Abner Uribe and Aaron Ashby as the closers-in-waiting.

5. Blake Burke – Brewers

McCalvy says Burke is "knocking on the door" after hitting 34 homers with 29 steals between Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville. Depending on what happens with Jake Bauers (who has until 3 p.m. CT Nov. 17 to answer his qualifying offer) and Vaughn, there could be playing time at first base.

6. Luke Adams – Brewers

McCalvy also names Adams as a first-base candidate after a .418 on-base percentage in 279 plate appearances at Triple-A in an injury-shortened season. Adams is also on McCalvy's list of standout players who need to be added to the 40-man roster by Nov. 17 to be protected from the Rule 5 Draft, along with Jett Williams.

7. Jesús Made – Brewers

McCalvy expects MLB Pipeline's No. 1 overall prospect, along with Josh Adamczewski and Braylon Payne, to "presumably" open 2027 at Triple-A Nashville after all three finished the season at Double-A Biloxi. This is an expected next step, not an announced assignment.

8. Mike Trout – Angels

Rhett Bollinger writes that Trout is expected to move to left field in 2027. Bollinger sees Wade Meckler as a possible everyday right fielder if he can show he hits lefties, and calls center field undecided between the defense-first Bryce Teodosio and the No. 6 prospect, Nelson Rada, who is getting close to the majors.

9. Moisés Ballesteros – Angels

Bollinger says Ballesteros is expected to catch more in 2027. Travis d'Arnaud is a free agent, the Angels have to decide whether to tender Tyler Heineman, and they need to add at least one catcher.

10. Josh Lowe – Angels

Bollinger calls Lowe and Jose Siri non-tender candidates who could be brought back as depth. He also writes that Denzer Guzman could go back to the minors after struggling at the plate over 84 games at third base, and that Vaughn Grissom, Oswald Peraza, Nacho Alvarez Jr. and Christian Moore are competing for utility roles. The non-tender deadline is Nov. 20.

11. Ryan Johnson – Angels

All of the Angels' starters are returning. Bollinger notes the rookie had a 2.83 ERA over his final 10 starts and George Klassen had a 3.67 ERA in six starts, while No. 2 prospect Tyler Bremner is "near the big leagues." He adds that starting pitching does not look like a major priority unless Reid Detmers or Yusei Kikuchi is traded.

12. Josiah Gray – Nationals

Gray came back in late September from nearly three seasons out, but only as a reliever: three appearances, his first career save and a 92.3 mph average four-seamer (93.6 in 2023). Jessica Camerato reports that Washington's plan this winter is to get him stretched out, with health still the top priority.

13. Orlando Ribalta – Nationals

Camerato writes that Ribalta turned into a late-inning go-to in his breakout season, averaging 96.9 mph on his fastball (87th percentile) and holding lefties to a .132 average. He started the year at Triple-A Rochester and missed most of September on the injured list with right forearm inflammation.

14. Will Dion – Nationals

After coming over from Cleveland in the Foster Griffin trade, the rookie and former minor-league starter worked as a multi-inning reliever. He went two-plus innings in nine of his 15 appearances, had a 3.00 ERA over 30 innings and stranded all 12 runners he inherited (Camerato).

15. Ryan O'Hearn – Pirates

MLB Trade Rumors' Charlie Wright details O'Hearn's 2026 approach change: a 40.2% pull rate, a 19% pulled-air-ball rate (career norm 15.5%), a 13.6-degree average launch angle and contact 2.3 inches farther out front. He also had a career-low 70.7 mph swing speed, and it added up to a career-high 18 homers alongside a 22% strikeout rate and a .247 expected batting average.

16. Bryan Abreu – Free agent

Abreu lost Houston's closer job in April after giving up 13 earned runs in his first 11 outings while sitting at 95.1 mph, more than 2 mph below his 2025 velocity. From May on he had a 2.19 ERA with about a 30% strikeout rate, sitting 96–97 mph down the stretch. MLB Trade Rumors projects him for a two-year, $22 million deal with an opt-out.

17. Aaron Parker – Blue Jays

Parker was added the night before as a replacement and won the Arizona Fall League Home Run Derby with 19 total homers, beating Tai Peete 2–1 in the final. MLB Pipeline says the 2024 sixth-rounder is hitting .356/.483/.511 in 12 AFL games, and his 90th-percentile exit velocity of 107.9 mph ranked in the top 1% of the minors.

18. Tai Peete – Cardinals

The update since his record-tying four-steal game: Peete hit 15 homers in the AFL Home Run Derby and finished runner-up. On Friday, he homered, drove in five runs and stole three bases in a Peoria win (Dan Guerrero, St. Louis Post-Dispatch).

19. Zion Rose – Royals

In Week 5 of the AFL, the Royals' No. 6 prospect went 6-for-14 with a homer, seven RBIs and six stolen bases in four games. His .494 on-base percentage is sixth in the league, with as many walks as strikeouts (MLB Pipeline).

20. Dante Nori – Phillies

The Phillies' No. 7 prospect went 7-for-15 with three steals and five RBIs in Week 5 of the AFL. Phillies teammate Aidan Miller leads the AFL in walks (MLB Pipeline).

21. Antonio Anderson – Red Sox

Boston's 2023 third-round pick hit .455/.647/.727 with six walks in Week 5 of the AFL and has three homers in 15 Fall League games, with 20 RBIs (fourth in the AFL), after a .826 OPS at High-A Greenville (MLB Pipeline).

23. Alex Williams – Marlins

Williams struck out 10 and allowed one hit over four scoreless innings against Surprise and has an 11.6 K/9 in 14 AFL innings. His only 10-strikeout start of the 2026 season came April 22 for Double-A Pensacola (MLB Pipeline).

24. Zack Kelly – Free agent

The update since he cleared waivers: MLB.com's transaction log now shows Kelly as released, and MLB Trade Rumors reports he is expected to start throwing soon as he recovers from his right-elbow fracture.

Recent notes — Nov. 6 (missed prior digests)

25. Grant Taylor – White Sox

(Nov. 6) In the Chicago Sun-Times, James Fegan writes that whether Taylor goes to the rotation or stays in the bullpen is still to be decided. Taylor told the paper last month that the talk would come after the postseason, and that "everything's gone to plan" in building toward a starter's innings total. Fegan expects Hagen Smith's multi-inning or starting role and Caleb Bonemer's promotion timeline to come up at the GM Meetings.

26. Casey Schmitt – Giants

(Nov. 6) Schmitt was cleared for a normal offseason at the end of September after surgery on the torn meniscus in his left knee. Buster Posey said "I don't think there's anything set in stone at this point" about his position, adding, "We'll probably look at second a little bit." MLB.com adds that San Francisco may want to give Marcelo Mayer a chance at second, which would send Schmitt to left field more often.

27. Spencer Miles – Blue Jays

(Nov. 6) Keegan Matheson writes that Miles is expected to move from the bullpen into the rotation, alongside Dylan Cease, Trey Yesavage, José Soriano and Cody Ponce. He adds that Bowden Francis and José Berríos are rehabbing from Tommy John surgery and could return later in the 2027 season.
