Grading SPs - AL East
A fast paced series to grade and re-rank SPs for fantasy leagues
Yankees
Max Fried: 9
Fried has given up three runs three times and five runs twice, but the ERA is still great at 2.92 with a 0.95 WHIP. His K% is down from 23.6% last year to 21.1%. That matters a bit, but Fried has been one of the best pitchers in the recent MLB history at putting up elite ratios without a ton of strikeouts.
The Yankees are so good, and you’re going to like what you get from Fried the rest of the year, even if he does throw in a crooked number or two into the ER column every month.
Cam Schlittler: 10
I’ll just give it to him. His K% is ticking down a little bit, but for the season he sports a 25% K-BB% with a 16.3% SwStr% and a 30.4% Ball% with a .253 xwOBA allowed. Elite stuff.
If we drafting today, I don’t think I’d target him in the top 30 picks, where I think he would be going, but I can’t say he’s not a clear ten-grade pitcher from what we’ve seen.
Will Warren: 5
I can’t figure the guy out! He has a 10.8% SwStr% but a 30.5% K% and the walks aren’t a problem anymore with a 6.3% BB%. BUT a 36.7% Ball%!
He seemed to me to be getting really lucky early on. He gave up six runs on seven hits in his last start after giving up two dingers.
I’m still on the fade side. But some dudes just have uncanny called strike ability. I’m not willing to go there with Warren. He’s made some adjustments, which is good, but it also means that the league has something to adjust to. And maybe we’re already seeing that.
